Yea - they absolutely do carry rifles/shotguns - never know when a dinner might present itself.
Don’t laugh - those Amish kids absolutely do go wild at times.
Currently very close to one of the 2 very large Amish populations in Ohio and actually live immediately above public lands where hunting is allowed - so seeing Amish driving by is not uncommon. Hunting is both a favorite past time and a way of providing dinner for their families.
Years ago knew the owner of a little middle of nowhere bar that was literally surrounded by Amish families. The stories out of that place with the Amish kids coming in for beer and the Amish girls hanging around outside. They rebel like any other teenager. Guy down there used to regularly buy cheap “boom box” style radios for the Amish kids who would save up and buy them for the weekends - you’d be out on a back country road and hear country music blaring for a few minutes before hearing the familiar clip-clop of horse shoes on pavement and a light from the buggy. The elders would find the radios stashed in a barn and smash them - kids would be back the following weekend with money for a new one and a 12 pack of beer.
