Ohio eliminating college player props 3/1

For those unaware - no more college player props at Ohio sportsbooks as of Friday.

Seems an odd move - do they really think there is a problem with players taking kickbacks on stats - but it has zero effect on the game itself ?

Or are they admitting it’s happened - but the revenue is too great to pass up on the games ?

This was done at the request of the NCAA.

NCAA president and the Governor sent a letter to the Ohio casino Control Commission asking them to ban player prop bets on all college sports.

They cited the growing level of "bad actors" that were harrassing and threatening players.

Some books claimed they can monitor bullying or harrassment against players that their customers do and that they can take action against the customers....LMAO.

In further objections to the ban, those books cited a potential pop up of a black market in prop betting......LMAOOOOOOOO

Isn't that just a neighborhood bookie? lol

They will lose out on some money here too.

Ohio books love about a 12% theoretical hold on those player props and bettors in Ohio bet over $100 million just on college player props last year.

Tax that revenue at 20% and it's a couple million to the state.

The arguments the books put up were a bit comical, saying people will go offshore or the "black market" lol.

Got to agree - NIL money is fine to take - but afraid players will be “harassed” by compulsive gamblers - it’s laughable.

So in other words - pay me like a pro because I’m good - BUT I deserve to be in a protective bubble from anyone who doesn’t support me because I’m a kid who just plays for love of the game.

Pick one - your paid or your an amateur.

It’s not just the “big” names who get NIL - everyone is getting a small amount - some are getting more than pros in their respective sport - outside of men’s hoops and football - not a lot of high priced pros and quite a few women basketball/volleyball and others getting paid. Even baseball - what’s the pay rate for a non bonus player in the minors ?

Books monitoring bullying or harrassment... That is a good one. Some politicians are so stupid and corrupt though, I'm a little suprised they didnt't accept that answer.

Jay, is the Goodfellas "Boston" mention a reference to the Boston Coll point-shaving scandal?

I watched some of that. May need to re-fresh my memory on that.

A few basics on pt-shaving scandals:
1) It's amazing how easy it can be orchestrated.
2) Money appeal for a college-kid doesn't take much.
3) Pulling it off is NOT always that easy. The ATS margins aren't that big.
