GREENVILLE, N.C. - A customer left an unbelievable tip for a server at a North Carolina restaurant – $10,000!

And the customer just ordered water.

Server Alaina Custer was in shock when she discovered the stack of bills left on the table for her.

The large tip had a note with it that read, "For the delicious water."

When Custer found the tip, there were two men at a nearby table filming her reaction. It turns out the person who left the money i s a YouTube personality known as "Mr. Beast."

While the waitress did keep a good chunk of the cash, she split the rest among the staff at the restaurant.

If you have a great amount of viewers, why not?

The only thing I don't like is.. at least, just try to separate the good deeds from "good deeds for the sake of content".
You are wrong here Genie

Mr. Beast has a full philanthropy youtube channel. He doesn't shy away from the fact that everyone watching the video makes money for that channel but 100% of the proceeds go to helping others. I dont even think he keeps 1% of that revenue

How is that bad?

He could create a shit ton of videos with millions of views and just not donate like some other youtubers

The whole philanthropy channel thing. Is basically raising awareness that people ARE profiting off these stupid videos being posted (both hosting sites and creators) and basically using his content to give back a little.

Nothing wrong with this dual purpose experiment to me.

People don’t think how companies get rich off their content. Just like forums - we give content away and get no reward. Of course 99.9% of the content is of little value - and you get free access for posting - so it’s fair. But that .01 % creates significant profit and deserves compensation.

Jeffrey hit it on the head. They wouldn’t give a dime if they weren’t making money off to giveaways.

all they’re doing is putting money back into the business and getting it 10 times over in profit they don’t care about people if they did, they would never put it on camera

Absolutely agree.

I mean what he is doing is pointing out the various video providers are in fact just another outlet for this reality crap being turned out by traditional media (television).

TV started doing this out of a combination of cheapness and to avoid disruptions due to a writers or actor strike. After all - if it’s “reality” - you don’t need writers or actors (good ones at least) - you just toss a 100k prize out there and film the resultant stupidity amongst “contestants”.

Worked so damn well - outlets like Fox made it the backbone of what they broadcast. I mean look at their lineup - cartoons and reality - cheap to make and no worries about some big name actor demanding a payday when the show takes off.

Fact is we have changed how we watch - no one waits and tunes in at 8-9 on a weeknight - it’s streaming and binging.

The other thing is - outlets want eyeballs - they don’t care if you love or hate their characters - only that they watch.

Think Howard Stern or Rush…people listened not because they agreed with everything they said - but to hear what stupidity came from their mouth next.

You could be a 80% capper on this forum - there is a silent majority who will follow - check in daily for your picks and then move on. That’s not “engaging” content - those eyeballs last only a few minutes. You have a few posters though that post stupidity throughout the day - and people feel the need to respond to it - that is ENGAGEMENT and what advertisers want to see.

Another great example I can think about is years ago - a certain insurance company I worked with was falling behind in their race with a competitor and hired a very big agency fresh off a successful campaign for UPS. They were brought a character named “Flo” they ran it for a season and people HATED it - so they fired the agency. New guy came in and said - “hey - use that to your advantage - sure they hate her - but look at the brand recognition it triggers. They think of annoying ass Flo - they think of you. No one is ever going to like an insurance company anyway. So embrace it - keep running with it and you will gain. Let the competition spend billions trying to create “lovable” lizards, cavemen, pigs, whatever - you have your mascot and despite being hated - people will forever associate her with you. How do you think that worked out for them.

People love to hate things - wrestling has proved this for decades. As many people bought tickets to boo the “heel” as cheer the “heroes” - it’s a hell of a lot easier being the asshole than it is the baby face and it’s a lot easier to find someone who looks and acts the asshole too.

Don’t forget these are tax write off also
It is nice they give money away, but it’s part of their business plan

it’s all about getting subscribers, and clicks to make money and people do whatever it takes

The public eats up people giving money away, and then they subscribe to these channels begging for money it’s pathetic
