So called a couple of landscapers to do some clean up around the house this past week - nothing big - just regular fall clean up.
Anyway - these people are higher than giraffe balls on pricing !!!
Have like 20 “average” bushes that need trimmed back for fall - about 4-5’ tall - nothing extreme. What would it take to trim something like that with a set of hedge trimmers - 15-20 minutes including dragging a tarp out to catch the trimming and pulling the tarp back to the trailer ? 30 minutes even - if they were slow and counting paid breaks. I think I spent 3-4 hours last year doing it.
Quoted me $175 A BUSH !! That’s $3500 freaking dollars to have a day laborer they are paying about the same for the day to do the work.
Even better - one had the balls to add on a “fuel surcharge” and “trip charge” - when I pushed back asking WTF are these - fuel charge for the “added cost of gas these days” and trip charge is “for driving to my home vs in their shop”. Again - I’m not a damn idiot - I buy premix 2 cycle stuff for $4 a can at the hardware store - I’d be lucky to use a half can running the trimmers all day - fuel surcharge my ass. Then the trip charge - I’m intrigued - does anyone else take their landscaping into the landscapers shop for trimming ?!? Seriously - would seem to be a “built in” cost of this type of business.
The other guy was even better - he asked how I got his info - told him reference from a friend. Asked who was it - I’m expecting he asked who because he wants to thank them - possibly give them a small discount in the future - so I tell him. He’s like - I don’t know the name - reason I ask is my price varies based on who sent you to me…basically to me sounds like I overcharge some people and don’t want to charge you less than o charge them because it will create issues if they find out you got a better price. Freaking crooks - all of them.
So now have to find a way to guilt the wife into doing some landscaping work.
