So called a couple of landscapers to do some clean up around the house this past week - nothing big - just regular fall clean up.

Anyway - these people are higher than giraffe balls on pricing !!!

Have like 20 “average” bushes that need trimmed back for fall - about 4-5’ tall - nothing extreme. What would it take to trim something like that with a set of hedge trimmers - 15-20 minutes including dragging a tarp out to catch the trimming and pulling the tarp back to the trailer ? 30 minutes even - if they were slow and counting paid breaks. I think I spent 3-4 hours last year doing it.

Quoted me $175 A BUSH !! That’s $3500 freaking dollars to have a day laborer they are paying about the same for the day to do the work.

Even better - one had the balls to add on a “fuel surcharge” and “trip charge” - when I pushed back asking WTF are these - fuel charge for the “added cost of gas these days” and trip charge is “for driving to my home vs in their shop”. Again - I’m not a damn idiot - I buy premix 2 cycle stuff for $4 a can at the hardware store - I’d be lucky to use a half can running the trimmers all day - fuel surcharge my ass. Then the trip charge - I’m intrigued - does anyone else take their landscaping into the landscapers shop for trimming ?!? Seriously - would seem to be a “built in” cost of this type of business.

The other guy was even better - he asked how I got his info - told him reference from a friend. Asked who was it - I’m expecting he asked who because he wants to thank them - possibly give them a small discount in the future - so I tell him. He’s like - I don’t know the name - reason I ask is my price varies based on who sent you to me…basically to me sounds like I overcharge some people and don’t want to charge you less than o charge them because it will create issues if they find out you got a better price. Freaking crooks - all of them.

So now have to find a way to guilt the wife into doing some landscaping work.

I forget what part of the country do you live in??

One of the benefits of living in Central Texas is being able to find guys that run a small 2-3 man crew that are mostly illegals. 50-60 percent of what most charge.

I’ve been using the same guy. Vietnam vet. Retired military. Hispanic guy. Always drops 2-3 guys off. They stay an hour. Clean up everything. Trim everything. Pull the weeds. Spray. Haul it off on their trailer. Blow everything into the street and pick it up as well.

$60 bucks cash.

In 15 years using the guy he’s only gone up from $30 to $60.

He also Zeroscaped my yard years ago for about $800 plus I paid for materials when everyone else wanted $3,500-4k

Guy has saved me tons over the years.

I have another guy I used to work with that went out on his own with his uncle. Can do anything. Paint houses, do fences, etc. Also employs all illegals except one maybe. Always comes in 60-70 percent lower than almost anyone else.

“When you want the price to go down…think brown”

“When you want the price to be low…..think Mexico 🇲🇽

If he is living in Ohio you don't even have to use illegals. Just ask for a cash price on the side from a legit small company.

I do anything to screw a customer. It’s all about making money to gamble.

I do root removal and what I do is I put fake roots that look like it’s going by their drains and foundations and I said they should be removed and I make a quick 500

Yea - Ohio - and not the wealthy ass suburbs of Columbus where people will pay this dumbassery either - out in the freaking sticks !!

I mean I’ve been around enough construction to know handymen types will absolutely price jack when they think they can - but this is ridiculous.

Just like I told the one guy - I’ll pay you by the hour - 2 guys, $100 an hour - how many hours will it take you to do this job. He hmmm’ed around and said he can’t do that - as it wouldn’t be fair to me. How is that unfair - if he said 4 hours (what I figured) - fine, done deal - if he says 5 - ok, I would have given them $500 anyway if they did a decent job - so I agree and no tip. But 3500 is a freaking joke.

The other guy with his “price depends on who referred me line” was a no go no matter what he said. Just cannot deal with crooks like that.

I’ll wait and do it myself next weekend - just a half hour at a time with hour breaks. Then I’ll gamble what I planned on spending and try to double my money.
