As a Niners fan this makes me sick and gives me an all new reason to hate the Cowboys. I don't think Trey takes Dak's job any point in the near future but he's a pretty good insurance policy in case they decide Dak isn't their guy and Trey develops. He's still young so I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that he can improve enough to be an NFL starter and Dallas didn't have to give up too much to find out.

While I don't think Lance can be considered a bust because he could still with time develop into a reliable NFL starter I do think the trade the 49ers made to draft him was an absolute disaster and one of the worst trades in NFL history. Still ranks below the one the Vikings made to acquire Herschel Walker and jump start the Cowboys Dynasty during the 90's but its up there because the Niners got fleeced.

Expect better from John Lynch .

good deal for San fran
Its good from the standpoint that they got something for Lance but I feel like they could've gotten least a 2nd or 3rd round pick at least for the former number 3 pick overall. I guess teams don't view him the same way the 49ers did during the 2021 draft so this was probably the best they could do for a guy people view as a project.

You're probably right it just seems like Dallas got the better end of this deal. They didn't mortgage the future to get a guy who may or may not pan out and if they move on from Dak they have an insurance policy that they can bring along slowly. Its worth a gamble to take a shot on Lance because if it doesn't work out you didn't give up much to get him.
