NCAA revises NIL rules

He’s smart enough to realize when it’s time to step aside - enjoy life and that the landscape has changed.

5 years ago - he could call up any 5 star prospect - tell them come play for Alabama and I’ll make you famous and you will get a chance to play in a national championship game - and he could tell any players mother let your son come play for me and I’ll keep them protected and out of trouble - and they knew he was being sincere.

Now with NIL - you got every school coming out and saying “we can pay 6 figures” to any 3 or 4 star they need. Alabama level talent cost a whole lot more and try as they might - they can’t get them all. Legally paying players changed recruiting much in the same way legal gambling changed offshore - there are still deals made under the table - but it’s a lot harder and things are being clamped down on hard.

He saw the writing on the wall - Pete’s out in Seattle - Bill is on his way out in Boston - it’s time for the old guard to retire and give way to the next wave.

How long until Coach Prime is on his way down to Tuscaloosa to interview along with his sons.

Very good take. Although I don’t agree about Coach Prime but who knows?

History - yes

Class - nah - Saban just made it appear that way by being the face of the University. This is the same “classy” organization who hired Mike Price and then shitcanned him for going to a strip club and having an “unknown female” run up a grand on the university credit card with room service charges.

Look at their history of coaches between Bear and Saban - class is not the word I’d use for either the University or several of the coaches. Saban turned around their image with the public and the NCAA.

Prime would fit right in with some of the stuff they have done in the past. I’m sure Alabama would realize they have been a HBCU all along to ease any concerns he might have about accepting their millions.

No - I don’t think he’d be a great fit - but I see a pattern repeating itself here - some poor schmuck is gonna have to replace a legend - will never meet the expectations- will get the boot 3 years from now and some win at all cost type will take their place and get caught skirting whatever rules remain about paying off players.

At least they are guaranteed to make the playoffs next year with the expansion - so they can keep touting how they have made the BCS again. Too bad the 4th best team in the Big 18 will likely hang 60 on them in their bowl game - unless it’s Iowa - Iowa will struggle to put 40 on them.

Wonder if there’s any way they could try and pry Sark from Texas. Not sure he’d want to go. He has things going real smoothly here and can you imagine following Saban?

Why leave State U of football heaven to coach a team who may only be 2nd best in their state this year ?

You could get only 1/3 of the top recruits in your home state of Texas and have a top 5 recruiting class every year as coach of the Longhorns. You could get every top recruit in Alabama and Mississippi too and not crack the top 10 at ‘Bama.

Players came to play for Saban - not Alabama. Next coach is going to have to be someone who can recruit and sell kids/parents - and is going to have a couple of guys in the SEC going against them who can do just that.

Kinda like how Houston Nutt sold kids on Arkansas - money and strippers aside - if these kids didn’t think Arkansas was their ticket to the NFL - they would have had a hall of weekend on a recruiting trip there - accepted the duffle bag full of free gear and cash and then signed with another SEC school . Instead he had the ability to say exactly what they wanted to hear and get them to buy in to his program.

Texas folks are already saying how the AD make a mistake for not signing Sark to an extension last week. Saying 10 million a year might have just gone up to 12-15 per year.

Sark will definitely take their call as much as he openly and often admired Saban and credited him with reviving his career. Even if he has no interest in following the guy his agent will use the possibility to get more $$ out of Texas.

Dabo is an interesting name. He played for Alabama and I think he’s gotten all he can out of the Clemson job.

Played on the Tide 92 Natty team.
