Wags:

*Here's one for you. NFL avg PPG down a little. 2022 (1st 2wks) = 46.0. 2021 (full season) = 49.6.

That's even with all the comebacks last week. IMHO, a little counterintuitive b/c scoring has trended UP for some time.

If you dig a little deeper, the Pass TD haven't changed much. But the RUSH TDs are drying up (down about 20% from last yr).

Almost like the Pass Interference rules are so generous that there's no need to run anymore.

What do you think the reasoning for it is?

Or nothing in general?

I mentioned the Pass Interference rules. I think that's a big reason. My opinion is that Pass Defense is very difficult in the modern NFL.

These refs can't wait to throw the flag. And the big hits so often lead to a penalty.

Different game vs the past. TD/INT ratios have exploded over L50 years.

My observation is that rushing has become less and less of the game. We'll see.

Thx, Wags. I'll make an aside for a second:

*I've been trying to make a push for QB Ken Anderson to make the Pro FB Hall of Fame.

Have sent my research to five big names. Anderson missed again on this ballot.

I really think the reason is that he played in the 1970s "Steel Curtain" decade. It was SO TOUGH to pass back then, especially vs the Mel Blount Steelers.

Now, the whole league is pass-heavy. Thanks for this thread. Makes one think for sure.

He's definitely a name everyone of all ages has heard of

In Tampa area we've been doing the same for Ronde Barber

Wags, the Buc teams from circa 2000 were one of my favorite teams to watch. The Buc-Ram games from that era were must-see TV.

Ronde was very good. So quick. Perfect footwork.

Look at the Buc defense TD/INT ratio from the Super Bowl year. One of the best ever. Defensive quickness was amazing.

Any tipped ball was very likely to be picked off. Their DBs Barber/Smith/Kelly provided air-tight coverage.
