Their entire models were based off Las Vegas sports betting, but then they took it to a superior level that still unmatched anywhere in the world

Now everybody copies offshore

DraftKings and Fanuel did add lots of innovation, but that’s about it

I'd much rather play offshore than Vegas. Yes, living out here is convenient for placing bets but there's no real incentive. No sign of bonuses, no promotions etc...

Just think about the vision these old-school operators had it’s incredible

From the creative minds, the money backing and the software developers

I wonder who the first inventor was to take it to offshore and phone rooms?

And Vegas was created by a bunch of crooked saloon operators taking advantage of uneducated cowboys. Vegas developed by a bunch of mobsters looking to launder money.

Pretty much checks in line with the beginning and development of the offshore industry - a bunch of shady folk looking to sucker in the uneducated and then wanna be gangsters moving in and taking it to the next level to launder money.

As we all know Vegas went “family friendly” in the 1980s - mega resorts and such - why not take the kids and head to the dessert for some family fun. Guess that’s where we are now with the introduction of the apps and advertisements every 2 minutes during a game showing people happily betting on the next play.

Innovative - nah, I can remember an old friend of mine taking about his father working as a local in the late 70s/80s growing up. At a time where a single land line in the house was the norm - his old man paid off the telephone man to run 6 lines to the house. Saturday mornings he had his kids taking wagers and working the phones.

Moving offshore was evolution - WSEX was more innovative in their day. Selling the “player stock exchange” - you bought “shares” of a player - say Jose Canseco at $25. End of the year player who won MVP was “redeemed” at $100 - in essence a future bet on your favorite player. Their “marketing” - going around to baseball card shops and shows, selling the idea to dealers to pass along to their customers and building a client base of names/phone numbers. Only natural when you had a sucker buying big amounts of shares to then sell him on betting on games.

Can’t remember what they paid - think 5% offhand. First time I was approached I thought these guys are loons - what’s to prevent them from just taking all the money and disappearing.

Yep - that was the “Exchange” in World Sports Exchange - sold it like it was the NYSE or something. Had nice slick advertising and everything.

Tucked them away somewhere when I found them cleaning out boxes of stuff a while back - can’t remember what I did with it now. Was a neat idea in its time though. Same thing we do with presidential elections and key congressional races too really.

WSEX's stuff was a tad confusing; buying and selling like a stock option.

DJeff you are correct, they paid I think it was 4% on balances. They were also the first I can remember to do live betting. Like betting future markets ala PredictIt and that was 25 years ago. Way ahead of their time.

WSEX was one of my top 3 when they were still great. Loved that book. Matchbook and pinnacle were my other top books personally.

And wasn’t Matchbook originally started by/in part with WSEX ?

Damn - imagine what Matchbook could do in the USA these days ? Absolutely the greatest platform for an arbitrage player - the average guy could make a tidy sum guaranteed using their platform if they knew what they were doing.

Matchbook volume has drastically decreased the last 5 years

Once they booted out credit accounts in the US, it dried up

Not many people knew but they had agents offering credit. I had an account when I was Arbing but all went away

There were a few guys in Costa Rica making fake documents for everyone so it would satisfy matchbook for the records
