College Football Pick for Friday: Plenty of Points Produced at Purdue

We are now 12-7 with our College Football write-ups after going 2-1 on Saturday, making us 23-12 across All Sports. We have an early Week 14 pick today in second ranked Indiana vs. Purdue Friday night on NBC.

Indiana Hoosiers vs. Purdue Boilermakers
Friday, November 28th – 7:30pm ET

We think that the total is a tad light in the Old Oaken Bucket Game the day after Thanksgiving. We are supporting the Over when #2 Indiana makes the short trip to Purdue Friday night in prime time.

Hoosiers Could Approach Total Themselves
Indiana is certainly deserving of its #2 ranking, entering this regular season finale and rivalry game a perfect 11-0. They are third in the country in scoring at 43.3 points per game thanks to ranking 10th in total offense with 478 yards per contest, and they have an impressive average winning margin of +31.7 points! Just about the only negative is that after topping 50 points in consecutive games against UCLA and Maryland, they have since gone 0-2 ATS.

They have also had extra time to prepare for this game after a bye last week, allowing for a welcome rest-bit late in the year. Of course, there is a chance that they could simply cruise to victory here without exerting much effort. However, we feel they will return to their normal offensive form after scoring just 27 and 34 points respectively the last two games, just to feel better about themselves heading into the post-season, especially with the extra prep.

Scoring should not be an issue against a Purdue team ranked 107th in total defense and 106th in scoring defense. Moreover, this is a rivalry game after all and the Hoosiers were not shy about running up the score when winning 66-0 at home last year.

Purdue Probably Won’t Need Much
Purdue is clearly outclassed here after looking improved with a 2-0 start to their season, as they have since lost nine straight games to fall to 2-9. At least they can be expected to give an all-out effort here playing at home in a rivalry game with the 66-0 score in Bloomington last year fresh in their minds.

Yes, that probably will not amount to a whole lot given the vast disparity in talent here, but at least they may score a time or two this year after last year’s goose egg. And frankly, that should be enough to ensure an Over if the Hoosiers do not top 55 points themselves, which is certainly a possibility.

We obviously expect a blowout here, but we have no interest in giving more than four touchdowns, which is where this spread stands now. Thus, we are betting on the Over at what we feel is a reasonable number with Indiana providing most of the heavy lifting and not much needed from Purdue.

THE PICK
Over 54.5 -102 at Heritage

Remember that we will certainly be adding more plays over the course of the week, so make sure to keep checking the NCAAF Picks thread for additions.
