I forgot about this Pistons-Sixers fight in 1990

Isiah Thomas proves why Jordan and every other star hated him.

He would talk the trash, throw punches and let everyone else take care of the big boy fighting when it was time

These guys would get suspended for the rest of the year in today’s soft NBA

The rules have changed so much since the 90's because the NBA didn't want their league to become one that only saw games played in the low 90's and 100's. They wanted more scoring so I think if Jordan played today he'd average 50 because you wouldn't be able to touch him. The game now is way less physical which is why everyone seems to be able to score 30+ in the league.

Saw this somewhere and it's dead on.
Especially the part about how you had different types of teams which made it much more interesting

"Before the NBA went to shit every team had different style based on coaching and talent.

You had fundamental teams like bulls / jazz / spurs cavs
3 point run n gun warriors / nuggets / blazers / suns
Physical teams knicks / pistons/ heat

No all of the players are robots playing exactly the same no defense and a 3 point chucking contest"

the 3 point rule is to blame. and guys in the 90s were just too dumb to exploit the math.

just make all shots 2 points again
For a while they were talking about moving the 3pt line back, and also adding a 4pt line

I think with the way things are going today that both of those ideas may have been thrown out the window and would make things even worse (if that's even possible)

Refs would be going to the monitor all game long back in the 80s and 90s to assess foul level if they had today’s rules

Games would take 5 hours

By the end of the game they’d be playing 3-on-3 because everyone else was thrown out

I'm pretty sure the ref's were calling it with playground rules.
If you ain't bleeding, it aint a foul.

Players were tough... break your finger.... Tape the s#it up and get back in the game.

Bird would put himself in traction often after a game for his bad back and then be ready to play again next day. Would today's pussies ever do that ?
Or McHale

Guy played with a broken foot in the 1987 playoffs and is paying for it still today

Bird asked him if he wanted to sit it out and regroup for next season and he said “no way - it’s the playoffs”

It’s funny - guys from the 70s/early 80s felt 90s players were a bunch of pussies and wouldn’t last in their era.

Probably true - imagine being the guy who tried to dunk on Bill Russell or Chamberlin in the day.

The ABA started the whole decline - guys were more focused on being the Globetrotters than playing like an NBA team. Championships became secondary to highlight plays and stats.

Growing up 2 faves aside from Magic were Lambier and Oakley.

You didn’t mess with those guys - later on became a fan of Houston with Hakeem. I remember my HS coach hated Hakeem (this was late 80s - before he started winning championships) - constantly mocked him and said he had no business playing in America.
