Nat demote all star CJ Abrams following casino all nighter

- Thank goodness we can’t demote posters for similar behavior (in fact we seem to encourage it)

- chicken shit move by a trash organization. Don’t like what he does in the off time - bench his ass a game. Demotion to minors is unwarranted - he will appeal and win the salary - and what’s he going to learn playing a few games in the minors ?

lol @ the first thought

but the second though I'd say I agree with what the club did - as a manager, you have to prove to your players you'll be tough on those who screw around

i also thought tyreek hill had to take 90% of the blame for the recent speeding incident so there you go...

He's a complete player. Minors is just a way to show him that next time he'll get terminated/traded. Or sent to minors for a full season. Benching just isn't enough - that was Nats reasoning, I guess. Had to make an example of him. He has to know better. Quite possible he knew what's coming and did it anyway?

If we were talking a college coach - getting tough might be the right move.

This is a professional - not some 19 year old kid. Yea - he’s 23, but he’s legally allowed to go to a casino.

Dangerously overstepped here - let the teams veterans sort it out and talk to him. Not on the club or the manager to tell an adult employee how to spend his free time.

I agree with you. But once news like this becomes public, it's a different ball game. Not only he put himself in a delicate situation, he didn't care enough to keep it private. Like, you can go to a casino and ask to enter through a back door, and sit in a private room.

If you're famous, and you do anything remotely interesting, you'll end up in someone's facebook video that very night. And an hour later, some TMZ journalist 'makes it a story'. And THAT is a problem. NOT him gambling late. But him trying to act as if this behavior is normal for a professional ball player who's trying to be a team player and does what he has to do, to get better, and maximize his team's chances to win games.

In general I think pro athletes are ridiculously overpaid. 95% of them realize just how good they have it.

I have no pity or positive feelings for the remaining 5%. To me they are just like a high school prom queen who won't get along with others and just thinks she'll have it easy in life because she looks amazing. F that

Reminds me of a couple of an incident in Cleveland - a few pitchers went out during COVID when they were supposed to quarantine.

Clevenger, Eldred and Plesac got crucified for going outside of the bubble. All 3 eventually moved by the team - and how did that help the team? Cut off their nose to spite the face. And now 3 years later we know none of them endangered anyone.

If you take an isolated incident, it's hard to argue with you.

All I was trying to say is, the behavior itself isn't anything remotely dangerous. The kid didn't really sabotage his team. And I'm sure he's smart enough to avoid casinos next season when his team is GOOD and fighting for playoffs.

But, people will talk, people will get jealous. And him refusing to 'obey' (basically) seems to his employers to be sending the wrong signal to the fans, to his teammates, to the public. I think that's why these teams are over-penalizing players.

My guess is, the conversation with the team owner / his agent went like this:
- So yea, sorry, won't do it again.
- Not good enough. Let's make an example out of you. We'll make it look like you hate the minors, you'll play three games, and say you're sorry on twitter when you're back. We need discipline here. This is the Nationals way.
- My pay stays the same, I keep the starting shortstop job this season and the next?
- Yeah, of course.

They are pissed they continue to lose and hanging it in this kid they lost yesterday.

Because they were down 1-0 most of the game - for whatever reason they act like he “cost” them the game.

Fact is they were lucky to have been that close and had a number of chances to win and simply didn’t. I know they had runners in scoring position at least a few times with less than 2 out and failed to do shit.

I didn't read it in the article. Did he win at the casino???
Maybe he was on a heater and didn't want to leave the table. You never walk away from a heater.

The Nats organization should unstand that if it's what happened.:ROFLMAO:

Wonder how many times the Yanks benched Mickey Mantle after he pulled an all-nighter?
