Were they losing money?
They really had no stars left on the team. They didn't want to pay for a big name.

Couple of them were doing well for the team but I doubt sponsors were willing to step up with big money without any brand names (e.g Hamlin, Busch, Larson) behind them.

With Harvick now calling NASCAR races in the booth this makes sense. I think those drivers show potential but they're not house hold names yet. It'll be interesting to see who picks them up next season.

A lot going on here that caused the decision…

- sponsors pulling out
- absentee ownership focused on other series (and 1 who is getting up there in age)
- lack of “name” drivers (same as the sport and anyone not named Hendricks is dealing with
- the whole argument over charters being permanent

Are they profitable - doubtful at the moment. But you don’t need to be profitable to make money in sports ownership - it’s like owning a house. Let’s say your mortgage is 2k and you can rent it for 1500 - you “lose” money month to month - but if the value of the home goes up - the equity offsets that loss hopefully - and when you sell you make your profit.

The whole thing with Charters is silly - NASCAR refuses to make them permanent - so basically you are at NASCAR mercy as to transferring them and their value. The whole thing basically goes opposite the Southern roots of the sport and the way of doing things. It’s like having an HOA telling you what you can and can’t do with your property - or trailer court telling you what you can do with your mobile home - which ever analogy fits the sports best.

Tony Stewart the driver remains one of the best in history - Tony Stewart the business mind has a pretty mixed track record though. Good guy who has re invested in racing - but he knows he can’t lose money keeping friends in jobs and cars.

what driver as a whole is the face of nascar now??, i dont know here
I don't think there are any that stand out like days of old (Earnhart, Johnson, Gordon, Stewart, E. Jr.).....

Hamlin does the most talking when it comes to rules and gets a lot of face time in the press. 2nd might be Keselowski, Busch, or Larson (maybe).

Then again Bubba Wallace is a stand out, top notch driver, many in the industry respect. Just kidding CK. Trying to get you riled up.
