For me

1. Muhammad Ali
1A. Clemente

Ali did quite a bit post retirement - Clemente famous for the plane crash - but got to think given the chance he would have been a huge advocate for many.

Who else comes to mind - I mean lots of guys do charity for image - but how many truly seem to care ? OJ was viewed as a likeable character right up until the moment he wasn’t.

Good one Tanko - forgot about him for a second.

Had a good friend met him at a superbowl in NO - friend was doing security for a big contractor and got a nice in person meet and greet - he had several nice things to say about Payton.

How you doing today @djefferis ?
Hang tough buddy.

Hanging in there - just chilling in an inner city hospital - so good times. Listening to all the trauma calls down at ER wondering how many are gunshots. Staff pretty cool here - it’s a cardiac only wing and since I’m not buzzing every 30 seconds and being a general PIA - they tend to hang out in the room for a break.

I mean at this point there’s a plan in place (bypass surgery sometime next week) and dr said no immediate danger/concern - so I’m just thankful. Hey - I could have lived with this right up until the moment I couldn’t. Instead I’m got a warning and heeded it - with a chance of 100% recovery. There will be changes - but I’m ready to make them.

There’s a line from a Ray Wylie Hubbard song that always stuck with me:

“Some get spiritual, 'cause they see the light
And some, 'cause they feel the heat”

Let’s just say I felt warmth beneath my feet.

He was a great dude. I’m going to get my dad an autographed Clemente bat or ball for his birthday, his favorite player. Also, I’ve been praying for ya boss, you’ll be good

Nice collection - growing up an hour out of Pittsburgh - I was surrounded by people who saw him play and absolutely revered him.

Not the greatest all around - but the definition of class as a ball player. Says a lot as Pittsburgh can be rough on its stars - just ask Dave Parker.

I splurged and bought something I wanted for a while a few months ago - a 1955 Topps Clemente rookie. It’s rough - graded as “authentic” - but it’s a piece I’ll keep - not an investment.

Next up is a ‘55 Koufax - hell - might as well just make it a goal to collect the set. I like the look of the ‘56 Clemente better - but the “55 will always be the one to own/
