Cobra was a hell of a player for a short period of time - but not quite HOF material.
Allen I actually think was the stronger candidate of the 2 - but again not HOF worthy. His numbers are low - but compare them to his contemporaries. Prime was in the 60s - between the transition to larger all purpose stadiums of the era, dominate pitching and fact he didn’t have protection in the lineup his numbers are low.
Both guys though support the need to allow steroid era players though. Parker was a noted user of uppers and cocaine. Allen was an unpopular guy in his time and not exactly loved in the clubhouse.
If you’re saying either of these guys belong - you can’t argue Bonds or Canseco don’t. I’ve said it before and will continue to say - I don’t care who is in - only who is not and should be. Just because I think a guy isn’t worthy - it’s just MY vote which means nothing - end of the day that player still has a plaque and can sign his name followed by HOF.
But not letting someone in because they were an asshole or called out hypocrisy in the game is wrong. You let these 2 in - so be prepared to let others in who did the same. Not the worst picks for HOF - but PeeWee Reese and Billy Williams no longer have to be the top punching bags for those arguing the HOF isn’t a hall of FAME.
If the story of baseball can be told without their name or achievements, then they simply are not HOF material.
I use my beloved Twins as point in fact.
You can tell the story of baseball without Bert Blyleven and Jim Kaat, but both are HOF. However, you can't tell the story of baseball without Puckett, Morris or Oliva (1st of many Cubans to exile), and they are 3 'controversial' HOFrs
