Major League Baseball said its authorized gaming operators will cap bets on individual pitches at $200 and exclude them from parlays, a day after two Cleveland Guardians players were indicted and accused of rigging pitches at the behest of gamblers.

MLB said Monday the limits were agreed to by sportsbook operators representing more than 98% of the U.S. betting market. The league said in a statement that pitch-level bets on outcomes of pitch velocity and of balls and strikes “present heightened integrity risks because they focus on one-off events that can be determined by a single player and can be inconsequential to the outcome of the game.”

“The risk on these pitch-level markets will be significantly mitigated by this new action targeted at the incentive to engage in misconduct,” the league said. “The creation of a strict bet limit on this type of bet, and the ban on parlaying them, reduces the payout for these markets and the ability to circumvent the new limit.”

MLB said the agreement included Bally’s, Bet365, BetMGM, Bet99, Betr, Caesars, Circa, DraftKings, 888, FanDuel, Gamewise, Hard Rock Bet, Intralot, Jack Entertainment, Mojo, Northstar Gaming, Oaklawn, Penn, Pointsbet, Potawatomi, Rush Street and Underdog.

Looks like most of the US market is complying.

But, this happened at an offshore book so I'd assume offshore books will limit the props as well to protect themselves.

The keyword here is US betting markets. What, if anything will happen offshore?

furthermore, even if they limit it down to $200 who says that will prevent anything? Granted it may limit what is currently going on, but it may not end it completely.

i think they have to eliminate the unders on all props. not saying i want that to happen but the unders are too easy to manipulate.

i have changed my opinion on props so much the last few years. at first i loved the option.

Agree....

You would think the people involved with this would be smarter about it to avoid getting the bet flagged. You can't drop $40k on one pitch after probably not betting 1/100th that much in prior bets and not raise red flags especially when the pitch ends up being in the dirt.

Clearly stupid people trying to execute something that takes a little more finesse and thought.

these people all wanted to make big money with only a few instances as opposed to stretching it out amongst many games and pitches. this could have been a cash cow for a nice amount of time. greed always kills these fixes.

I'm thinking it's because it's easy to do. It's a whole lot harder to fix a whole game than one single event.

The problem is that a lot of money on one single event draws attention.
