Man attempts to rob Sandusky bank using interpreter app
Absolutely freaking brilliant.
20 year old Venezuelan walks into small town bank - has a seat and ask an employee to “take the money - put it in a bag”. No weapon- no disguise - no suggestion of violence - no indication at all he was acting like he was robbing the bank.
Of course he claims he does not speak English and was using a translator app. Once police arrive - he claims it was all a “misunderstanding”.
Arrested and suspected of being in the country illegally - he has found the perfect way to LEGALLY rob a bank.
Basically - take advantage of small town stupidity and bias. You walk in - ask for a bag full pf money either the bank employee complies (per protocol they are not supposed to resist any type of robbery - even if no weapon is visible) and you walk out with a bag full of cash and vanish OR you have what happens occur - they call the police - get arrested - you say “I’m a victim of racial profiling - I was just asking for a loan and these ignorant white people profiled me and called me a thief”.
No doubt he winds up sent back to Venezuela - and no doubt some attorney books up with him - saying it was a racially motivated incident that cops were called and tried to shake a big bank down for a few hundred thousand. After all - regardless of his ACTUAL citizenship/legal status - he enjoys a presumption of innocence in the eyes of the law. So even if you ARE here illegally - unless someone has reasonable belief you are - they have no right to call law enforcement on you.
Of course not really a matter where you can pursue the local “Karen” for calling police on someone - it’s slander by letter of the law (as it’s not demonstrably obvious or true) - but a citizen making that call likely has no insurance nor assets worth of filing against - but a bank - different story. They have both assets and a reputation - as welll they know a “frivolous” suit can be costly to defend and a bad look to fight in eyes of customers. So they very well may be open to spending a few hundred thousand to avoid this all playing out in the media and making them look bad.
Again - watch the video - he in no way “acts” like he is robbing the place - he just looks like a confused person who doesn’t understand the language being spoken and is relying on a translator app. I have no doubt this is NOT the case - but it’s not what you feel/suspect - it’s what you can PROVE. Unless this was both planned and discussed - kid may have found the perfect way to “rob” a bank - by taking advantage of our sensitivity to “profiling” and our laws that protect everyone - even illegal entries:
