Kentucky Derby Week 2024

Keeneland closed today, Churchill opens tomorrow. The week leading up to the Derby is always a fun time to bet. Locals beating the big names, big prices….a good time to pay attention.

Here’s a funny tidbit from the NY Post:


With the Kentucky Derby next Saturday, reader Paul Boltax: “In 1979 I was working on 34th Street. Near the corner of Sixth Avenue was an OTB. The place was packed at lunchtime. I made friends I still have.

“On this day, a 50-1 shot wins the first race. What followed was a huge shriek then a thud. Someone hollers, ‘Is there a doctor here?!’

“Someone comes forward to aid the distressed person. He takes his wrist looking for a pulse. Sadly, he shakes his head indicating the man has died.

“Upon opening the dead man’s closed hand he sees a pari-mutuel ticket, gives it a glance, then says, ‘But he’s alive in the double.’ ’’

It’s a great week for action lots of big races, but the endgame is never a happy one as far as profit loss

There was a 51 minute gap between race 3 and race 4. These tracks can’t get anything right.

Looking forward to race 10, but falling asleep already.

Foley has two entered. His barn always seems to come alive opening week of Churchill. Most have never heard of this trainer, but he has over 400 wins at the historic track. Gaff up, who I think is awful, but what can you do?

Don’t forget Emerald Downs starts May 4th also. After Longacres closed down i was so depressed. Lol I would go everyday. Emerald opened in 1996 hard to believe it’s been that long. Yes I live 10 minutes from the track here in Auburn.
May start a Emerald thread with my plays when they race. Only racing 2 days a week until Fridays are added in a month or so.

Race seems like the battle of Good vs Evil. One one side, you have all the alleged juicers: Gargan x2, Cox x3, Chad x2, Saffie, Assman, Pletcher, and D’Amato. On the Good side, you have Lukas, Mott, and the rest.
I can’t root for the juicers, so will have Lukas and Mott several different ways.

Although, can’t argue with someone betting a juicer at big odds.
