Chiefs were angry. OK, I think it was a bad call. A few things:

1) Offensive alignment has long been a grey area in football.
2) It used to rattle my brain. A few basic rules:
*Must have 7+ Offensive players on the line of scrimmage.
*Eligible receivers can't be covered up. IE, they must be ENDS of the line.
3) Sometimes a Receiver will motion to the Side Judge pre-snap.
...Receiver wants to know if he's deemed to be on the line or off the line. In this case, he'd want to know if he is ruled to be On the Line or Offsides.

Long-winded way of explaining that there is often grey area on this stuff:
*If the line BOWS, a tackle could be deemed to not be on the line.
*If a Receiver and Flanker are close to same line-marker, one could be viewed as covered-up.

In this case, it seems ridiculous to say that Toney was offsides. Is he ahead of the ball? On video, he looks to be in line with the ball.

Chiefs executed a great play. I sometimes wonder why teams don't use Hook-and-Ladder more. If there is space downfield, it can open wide-up.

Bottom line, it's a bad call. You don't see it called often. Certainly not called if it's not blatant.

But the Bill win makes the Standings a lot more interesting. Think about it.

I was watching the play live and could tell he was offsides before the ball was snapped. Once the flag was thrown midplay I knew the play wouldn’t count.

Listened to Pat's comments. OK, he was frustrated. A few things:

1) He conceded that Toney is probably fractionally offsides.
2) He was DEFINITELY using his platform there.

He’s cost them W’s at least two games this year. The Lions week 1 was a disaster for him. Mahomes needs to be more self aware in that spot. Maybe he will change his tune after seeing the tape.

Yes, he was "in line with the ball" so at first I thought he wasn't offside. But your point makes sense that the player must be behind the ball. Why do I say this makes sense? Because the announcers had no qualms about him being offside.

I can't believe I'm taking the point of view of the announcers but he was clearly in line with the ball so I figured this time they knew something that I didn't and what you mention is the point I hadn't considered.

Reid says, "they normally give me a warning first". Then in the next sentence he says, "in all my year's coaching I have never seen that call made." What a dummy. If a Bill had been lined up in the neutral and sacked Mahomes that would have been ok? Would McDermott have cried that he was not warned 1st? Of course not. KT was clearly lined up offsides. Addition to the offsides, the RT was not lined up properly which was an illegal formation. Dude has been lined up wrong most of the season bc he’s too scared of the rush but hasn’t been called for it.

He wasn't out on the sidelines where he would check with the ref.

He was blocking the ref's view of the ball for fuksake. There's evidence of that.

There is no grey area when a player, that close to a the hash mark, lines up so far offsides like that.

Chucky must not have actually seen any of the play. Let's all give him the benefit of the doubt here, since this is BMR and we can't just call him a dumbass, he seems to be confusing the normal process of a wr checking with the ref for a warning with what happened last night.

The two scenarios are not even close.

But in fairness, he likely listened to Reid and Mahomes embarrass themselves after the game.

KC definitely embarrassed themselves last night as Toney must have known what he was doing being that close to the ball and still lining up offsides. You can even see him looking at the ball prior to the snap.

Section 3 of Article 19 in the NFL rules say where he can be...

Item 1. Non-Snapper. If he is not the snapper, no part of his body is permitted to be in the neutral zone at the snap, and his helmet must break a vertical plane that passes through the beltline of the snapper.

Those guards are barely lined up correctly but probably ok.

Those tackles are asking for a penalty...or begging for a warning...lol...
