The chance taker is, of course, a gambler, and this is by objective definition.
To me there’s a difference between a “chance taker” and a “risk taker”.
A chance taker is someone who gambles based solely on luck - they take a chance with no real knowledge of WHY they took the side they chose - they leave it all to chance - hoping it goes their way.
A risk taker knows why they took the side they did - they have something that makes them believe they are going to come out ahead. Educated risk takers know short term is never guaranteed - but long term empirical evidence supports they will win.
The problem is many here are chance taking gamblers - ask why they chose a side and the answer is invariably “the odds are in my favor” - but ask why they think this and they have no answer. Betting heavy chalk doesn’t guarantee a win - psychologically people value winning more than profit as a whole - and books exploit this behavior. A smart gambler though knows when to take risk and when to pass - they don’t merely leave it to chance. No point betting anything outside of a casino if you want to gamble like the chance taker - the hold on a table game is far less than sports in most cases and it’s 24/7 action.
