I know everyone hating Masvidal...but they both said they would get each other outside the ring and they agreed they were enemies...so I don't see nothing wrong except for Covington pressing charges because one thing neither of them said was if you assault me outside the ring I'll press charges...I've always liked Masvidal and didn't mind losing money on him against Covington and I still bet on him against Covington if they ever have a rematch.

No doubt it's an ambush and sucker punch, but my point is they both said they would do this to each other in public and both welcomed the other to try...so assuming that they both knew the other was trying to do this and neither said to keep things in the ring - neither should be charging the other for actually doing what they did they would where the both welcomed attempts too.

I agree that Masvidal is liable for damages and costs associated to the injury including delays for training, but neither said they would sue or pressed charges of it happened - so I'd be very disappointed if Covington actual went through with charging him.

THIS. i grew up in martial arts and have fought on the streets too. if you jump someone with your boys where its like 5v1, then youre a bitch. if you want to settle it outside of the ring, ok then man up and face me 1v1 like a real man. Masvidal has done many street fights like that, so he knows the game. it's also flaw sucker punching someone...if i was colby i'd press charges too

Well, we'll just have to agree to disagree, because I do support Masvidal - I think it's more cowardly for someone like Covington to say he'd surprise and assault Masvidal in public when he'd least expect it, then when it happens to him he uses the police to get even for him.

It's not lowlife tactics when both of them agreed to this tactics to begin with, should be realistic - agreeing to fight in a ring with rules and protections is one thing, and real life fighting without rules is another thing, people have to stop pretending they are the same thing and not get things mixed up.

Jails and filled with people that get things mixed up and so are graveyards, the reality is that people will get hurt or killed over things like words or girls or money or even looking at people wrong - so the reality is that just because one person thinks it's ok to use words to piss someone off its still an act of aggression that could have unexpected consequences.

But that's not even what happened here, Covington and Masvidal know each other well and there is no doubt for me that they both meant what they said when they both said they would catch each other outside of the ring, it could've just as easily have been Masvidal getting jumped by Covington and his friends - but that's what they both said they'd be trying to do to reach other, and none of them tried to keep things in the ring, so I do think it's cowardly to say one thing then hide behind the police afterwards.

I think the most important thing to consider is the part about trash talk, above quote saying that just because someone is stronger didn't make it acceptable to insult family etc - in short it means that words are weapons too that lead to escalation and retaliation, this is reality whether or not laws say it should or shouldn't happen.

Look at sports...basketball football baseball soccer etc don't allow fighting, and the result is escalation in trash talk and other ways to escalate, whether it's throwing baseballs at heads or pretending to be hurt to gain sympathy of referees or even people killing each other in soccer/football stadiums...in hockey there is less escalation by both players/fans by just letting fights happen.

I'm not supporting violence, I'm just saying nothing is guaranteed in life or death, and some things are gonna piss people off - I think in Covington case it's advocating the same violence he himself advocated outside the ring and then using the police as his tool of vengeance.
