Horrible story it’s why I don’t advise people to drive bikes on streets

Especially in today’s day and age

That should be an automatic 25 year sentence if he was drunk
Driving bikes should be a safe thing to do though, JJ. I also wouldn't recommend doing it at night and on the streets, like you said, but if that's what you choose it should be a safe thing.

I remember the days when if someone killed someone they would get the death penalty. 25 years for deliberately getting behind the wheel of your car and knowing you're putting others at risk as well.as yourself, in my opinion, should qualify for death.

You watch how the person that did it will say he’s sorry he didn’t mean it. I need leniency.
He's sorry, well so is the family whose lives you just negatively altered forever. Mother fukkers should thank God on their knees every night I'm not in charge because it would be death for everything.

There wouldn't be any such thing as crime anymore.

I agree.

when me and my ex got hit from behind by a large truck we had to get a lawyer.

His partner almost exclusively handled cases of bike riders getting hit by autos.

Big risk for horrible injuries. I didn’t realize how prevalent they were, especially in Austin where there are a lot of bike riders.

RIP

Horrible news for sure.

In this case - it certainly appears to be the autos fault.

At the same time - I have seen some of the most outrageous stupidity involving cyclist/ebikes and scooters. Amazing to me the version they come up with and the version our dash cam shows.

My fave cyclist was on a road construction site - the road was closed and the big “road closed” sign at the end of the residential street in a relatively high end community. Anyway - dude claims sign wasn’t secured and blew into him (there was practically no wind that day and these things have a few hundred pounds of sandbag securing them). Comes in with a “bike attorney” talking million dollar demand. I’m went door to door talking to both his neighbors and people near the scene - seems guy was a well known drunk who had no license - so regularly drove bike to the bar. Secured a nice ring video of him unsteadily riding by - falling 200 feet from the sign with out coming close to it and handful of statements from neighbors who hated the guy and described his drunken stupidity in their nice little sub division. The look on the attorney face was classic.

Johnny Goudreau and his brother were biking on County Route 551 in their hometown of Oldmans Township around 8 p.m when Higgins struck them from behind with his black Jeep Grand Cherokee, the New Jersey State Police said.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

The trooper who responded to the crash noted the scent of alcohol on Higgins’ breath.

The motorist later admitted that he had “five to six beers” before the fatal incident.

Higgins failed a field sobriety test, troopers said.

He later appeared glassy-eyed and somewhat dazed in his mugshot.

In an interview with police, Higgins explained that he was traveling north in a Jeep Grand Cherokee behind a sedan and an SUV, the criminal complaint obtained by The Post said.

He tried to pass the slower-moving cars by moving into the southbound lanes, the authorities explained.

Higgins passed the sedan and tried to reenter the northbound lanes when the SUV in front of him moved into the middle of the roadway in order to safely pass the bicyclists on the right side of the road.

Higgins then tried to move past the SUV on the right, and struck the brothers from behind, troopers said.

He told police that he believed that SUV was preventing him from passing, and that his alcohol consumption exacerbated his frustration and lack of patience.
