Interesting - so how exactly did the attackers know the 11 had substantial BTC holding - or are we to believe they just got lucky in finding these 11 had a large amount of BTC they gave up during the attack.

What was the “social event” this occurred at ?

Pretty clear to me these weren’t ordinary “tourist” - they were in town on business and decided to party a little - headed out for a night on the town and learned the cardinal rule - never make your business known - especially to locals. They got braggy about how good things were and got their ass beat down and robbed.

Knew some old school diamond brokers/jewelers in the day - traveled together like this - stayed in relatively unknown motels along the way and knew way better than to head out to a local club while shooting their mouths off. 1 security guard for 11 guys ? Was he local as well ? Probably the one who set them up…never trust your security to strangers.

Rumors are spreading that the Jews came to CR to "Monger" and they were possibly set up by the tricks.

Ok - makes sense BUT - How did the attackers know about the BTC ?!?

Let’s presume this is what it appears to be on the surface - a group of young, venture capital type kids partying down in CR at a resort.

Clearly they are going to be flashing cash around and attracting unwanted attention - but they’re not stupid - they hired “security”. How do the attackers know they have 700k between them in BTC ? It’s not like most people are walking around with that on their phone/in a memory stick or other physical media - it’s in a wallet or more likely multiple wallets.

Who in the hell is stupid/geek enough to brag to a hooker “Hey - I got a half million in BTC in my account” ?

Ransom situation certainly makes sense - but this just smells. I’ll take shit that didn’t happen like they said here for a thousand. 11 guys and their security guard willingly give up nearly a million to a few guys with guns in cop uniforms - who don’t do anything but tie them up - march them around from place to place to disorient and confuse them and just tie them up and leave them once they have the loot.

I get CR isn’t like say the Michoacán of Mexico where they’d have wasted all 11 and put their heads on display over a $700 ransom - but a hell of a lot of virtual cash being given up here with both little resistance and little violence. Was the money taken THEIRS or their employers for example ?

Simple facts here - CR is a tourist driven economy and tourist being robbed is bad for business. News like this needs to be cleared up ASAP and local government is going to come down swiftly on any police involved - when they do it’s likely another domino drops and we find out it wasn’t just a brilliant Oceans 11 heist dreamed up by a couple of underpaid local police being fed info. Won’t be surprised to find out one of the “victims” was in on it too in some way.

Agree completely, I wonder if the wife's family of Tony5D was involved here?

That was a very different situation I feel.

These are supposedly just rich boy tourist - not established operators.

5D Tony family had cash before he ever dreamed of starting a sportsbook - he got big, made a fortune for a lot of people - but as these things typically turn out the goose started laying smaller and smaller golden eggs while the list of people looking for their share grew. Someone feels they got cheated along the way, gets mad and comes looking for their payment and things get sideways.

Always amazed me the level of simplicity/stupidity that some of these things operate on and what becomes their undoing. Had a chance to talk to a couple of people who were involved in the seemingly much more exciting field of handling this stuff the last few years. People who deal with stuff like- heist/ransom-hostage negotiations and cyber theft. Common theme I’ve picked up from them is never assume these crooks are super intelligent or well organized.

Think of it in terms of the cyber security hacks we have seen - data being held ransom. It’s not a room full of nerds who all decided to launch a full scale attack of a system to freeze a corporate computer. It’s one dumbass who sends a phishing email that the executive secretary of a Fortune 50 company falls for - clicks and manages to open a back door for the hacker - who buddies up with a few smarter minds when they realize what they have and proceed to lock down the whole thing for a ransom. Same idea here - one of the “victims” owes a little beyond what they can pay to some local dealer - says hey, I can’t pay - but I can help you set up my “buddies” who have a stash of BTC worth 700k - forgive my debt and it’s yours for the taking.

Is there any evidence in your opinion that Tony5D had a friendly relationship with Blackie from Bet25back and Rebate Wager? I would bet Yes.
