As some of you know I have lived in In Việt Nam for the last 9 years. i am integrated into the society and culture as I speak the language. There are casinos all over the country. However they are for foreigners only. Vietnamese are not even allowed to walk in there, unless they are the employees of course. A few years ago in one of the nicest beaches in the country on an island called Phú Quốc they opened a casino where Vietnamese can gamble. Vietnamese people love to gamble they just do it in a different way but now are able to go here. It is very nice and the island is amazing, if you ever come to Việt Nam it is amazing if you like white sand and crystal clear blue water. The beaches here are better than anything America has to offer. There is a story that happened last year but the story is getting a lot of publicity here. I know some people in Interpol and other highly connected government people here. I have talked with them about this. They are pretty confident that the lady won't see any more of her winnings. It is pretty crazy if she doesn't get what she won. They paid her the 400k and she probably went back to Italy and they figured screw her, there is nothing she can do. It is the truth, there isn't much she can do, it will be very interesting to see how this plays out. If anyone is interested in the story and the area, I have provided links below. If anyone has any questions about gambling, travel, living here, just ask me. I consider myself an expert about the life in Việt Nam as a foreigner.

Phú Quốc also has the longest cable car in the world, with
the length of 8 km, the Phu Quoc cable car route is the longest non-stop three-way cable car in the world recorded by the Guinness Book of World Records.

The story

If I could place I bet, I would bet she doesn't see a penny more. I am really curious to see how it plays out.

What was the reason you moved there 9 years ago?
In 63 days I traveled to Myanmar, Indonesia, Thailand, South Korea, China, Singapore, Malaysia , Laos, Brunei, The Philippines , Vietnam , Taiwan and Timor-Leste. I went to each country and checked them out. I still go back to them to this day. I do a lot of extensive travel all year round in SEA. I fell in love with Vietnam but particularly the North where I live in Hanoi. It is a complete different country than the south, the food, the culture etc etc. My only mistake I have made by coming here was I didn't come 20 years ago. I will die in Vietnam. I have been to a total of 21 countries now in my life. I am living in the best place I have ever been, I like it better than where I am from in Santa Barbara and that is paradise. I recommend everyone coming here to travel, it will change your life and you won't want to leave. There are so many foreigners here like me that feel the same way. Once you come, you are a goner and don't want to leave. The only problem, it is extremely difficult to stay here. Most countries have a retirement visa , Vietnam has nothing like that. People get issues a 30 day visa and they have to go out and come back. I have connections and a TRC so I am good but it is hard to stay here. You can get married or get a job and that makes it easier.

I bet the views from that cable car are amazing! I'm surprised that they just didn't pay it all out when she won. I'm assuming they operate differently then USA casinos in that way
Me too, but this is a communist country they do things their way. Who knows what will happen. i am very curious. I will be there in two weeks. I will pry for information. The locals get a kick out of to see me me being able to talk to them in Vietnamese . I will ask the employees while they are dealing me cards what is the talk about it.

I will be your tour guide. Some people love the beach towns but I love the chaos of the big city. This place is heaven to me. There are so many cool places here. I can post some pictures if you are interested. I just got back from the place the filmed Kong with Samuel L Jackson, I have never seen anything so amazing in my life. Plus we have so many caves and the biggest one in the world too.

You and I have talked on SBR and I , like you, have fallen in love with SEA. The people are so polite and friendly there, especially compared to the urban area I live in now in the US.

I grew up in a small town in the Midwest. The people of SEA are closer to the type of people I grew up with than those living near me now.

I have spent extensive time in Singapore working there for a few months back in 2006 and have traveled back there half a dozen time since then visiting my friends I made over 15 years ago.

I can't wait to retire so I can spend a few months there every year. I'll be sure to make it to Vietnam one of these visits.

So it the government pretty corrupt there? I mean the lady is suing but likey nothing will happen so that seems to indicate laws are selectively applied. Is that the case?

I don't know the ranking but it is up there for one of the most corrupt countries there are....However it is very safe here so don't get those two things mixed up. I have been all over the world but this is the safest place I have ever been. It is just corrupt but I actually love the corruption and it's how things get done here. Money takes care of everything. There is no way that this lady is getting her money but I will be there in a couple weeks. I will be playing at the tables and I can speak Viet so I will be asking the employees about this. It should be interesting to see if they even respond.

When you come, let me know, I will get you all set up here. People in America just have no clue about the life here in this part of the word. It is the reason you have people like me feeling the way that I do. Other foreigners come here and feel the same way as well. I am headed to Singapore on the 14th, I go there a couple times a year. Looking forward to meet you one day. I feel the same way as Bourdain did. I will die here.
