I would think we’re supposed to right the purpose of gambling

In my day, I always wanted to win and buy a Cadillac never got it

A few times I wanted to buy a Rolex never got it

A few times $10,000 in tools never got it

I used to take some casino floor winnings, some, and go get a hot dog.

On a good night, I'd get Fatburger.

Times have changed though, the biggest purchase I most recently made with gambling winnings is college tuition for my daughter, and it isn't cheap.

@jjgold got to Ballys, formerly Montbleu, at stateline and grind up the roulette machine. Then take a couple bucks over to Dottie's and get a jumbo hot dog.

That's livin' large, as long as the machine is still there.

Bought a few “big ticket” items with gambling winnings - but usually it’s the gambling fund that is beneficiary of “other” big wins.

I keep a separate fund for my hobbies - including gambling - generally funded by class action settlements and bonus whoring. Class actions are VERY hot or miss - can literally be months where nothing comes in or I’m getting a bunch of $3.85 checks - but then one good hit and I’ve got a few thousand to spend.

The bonus whoring of banks is winding down these days - long gone are the days of $300 signups for checking accounts. Still get some decent credit card offers now and again as well as offers to roll over stock accounts to one of these new platforms.

What have I bought - a lot of junk silver coins, all of my knife collection, a tractor and tons of crap for the spare place to keep it up. These days the spare place is actually a new stream of revenue for my fun account - got a couple of small rental lots down there - and just signed a deal with a company aggregating a USDA program to ensure rural forest property remains forested. Not big $$ - but it’s a 20 year program that will pay me 3k a year for literally doing nothing but keeping a bunch of hilly countryside that has little other practical use.

Considered selling the land after the house next to it closes - but I’m getting basically 1/3 of the value paid to me over 20 years guaranteed - and keep the property with potential to cash in again a few ways (and continue using it as a tax loss for improvements).

The thing about gambling and buying things is balance - betting $1500 a day - winning 5k and buying yourself a 5k watch is generally not viable long term if you don’t have proper money management and that’s what catches so many. They hit a good day - buy something big and then 3 weeks later it’s in a pawn shop or for sale because they are broke.

I once passed on buying some 80s football and basketball cards. 4 k in winnings would of bought me 2 boxes of 1986 fleer basketball now worth a million maybe

Nah - 86-87 Fleer go for around 125k a box these days - barely a quarter of that.

Personally would never step near something like that - no matter how good the story behind it is. You know how easy it is to rip and reseal wax ? Hell - we did it in the late 80s when stuff was worth tens of dollars - you think it got less incentivized as prices hit thousands for a Jordan rookie ?

I’ve bough a few vintage wax items the past year - nothing near that level of course. Just a couple of ‘89 Fleer baseball with early production numbers (pre 71st day - day the Bill Ripken FF card was discovered and pulled) and some ‘89 UD boxes and some 84 and 85 Fleer and 85 Donruss.

The 89 Fleer I bought as cases sealed - so you production date is on the box. If I ever break into them - I’d have to send off to have individually wrapped and labeled with the production number. The UD - it’s a crapshoot. They didn’t shrink wrap the first year and initially the code to find a Griffey was easy - 1 rookie in each pack - corkscrewing in sequence through the box (I/E too of box would be cards 1/2/3/4 from left top to bottom right so 2nd layer would be 5 on top left). The later runs became much more random and frequently had more than 1 rookie in a pack. High numbers were completely random as not uncommon to see duplication of same rookie in a pack (remember unlike other companies at the time - UD didn’t produce a sheet of 110/132 cards of different players rather they made a sheet of 100 for every player - and made way more of say Griffey Jr than some nobody because that’s what sold and they were selling singles out the back door too all through the strike in 94).

Bought this earlier this year with cash BEFORE my big parlay win.

Explorer ?

I actually liked those when I had a company car - we were limited to using Fords - but could get any Ford that wasn’t a truck or 2 door car. Deal was we got an allowance towards a lease and had to pay extra for anything above that allowance.

My cheap ass went for the Edge as an Explorer would have cost like $60 more a month. Of course day after I signed for my new car - Ifound if you took a “turn in” from someone who left the company - you could have it for free and just so happened that someone literally quit after ordering a new Explorer Sport - so I could have had one free. Tried talking my way into it and out of the Edge - but I was stuck.

Still was never a fan of Fords until I had that Edge - which was actually a pretty damn good vehicle. Good mileage - no issues and had plenty of power and very comfortable for long trips.

Yeah it’s an older one 2017 had 120K miles at the time of purchase. Other than it shakes a bit shifting gears the car feels and drives new lol. I don’t drive it very far on a weekly basis just putting local city miles on it as of right now. 1st Ford myself and yes I know the negative reputation they have for their vehicles.

In 1994 I hit a parlay for $ 12,000 +. Working in the financial industry I didn't get paid when I was away from the phones. You were paid a nice base salary but it was always on a draw so holidays were sparse. After the win I lied to my wife and said it was a bonus from a trading period. We traveled across Canada to Alberta and headed south to the border of Montana. I took the kids to Yellowstone , Rushmore , Field of Dreams in Iowa etc. The best 3 weeks I ever spent with my kids. Great memory
