Why do teams hand out guaranteed contracts to coaches like this - only to dump their ass after a disappointing season ?

I’d get it if they completely missed the playoffs - but they won 49 games in a tough conference- and got beat by a better T-Wolves team.

You used Durant as a “cornerstone” of your team - despite history showing he is not that type of player and at 35 - he’s not going to change.

Was it worth 30 million ? He will eventually get another chance somewhere if he wants it. Phoenix on the other hand needs to realize it either happens next year - or the window is likely closed. Even if they do win it all next year - it’s a steep drop off from there.

Whoa.... Didn't realize it was a guaranteed contract.
That is a load of cash to dump on paying for a coach who won't be there.

Does it count against the salary cap? Just curious.

Not his fault. Team was constructed like s*** and Durant is WASHED compared to what he was 7-8 years ago. He hasn't been a healthy top tier player since like 2018. Yeah, he still shows flashes but guy was NEVER a killer was NEVER clutch and never won s*** without Steph, Klay, and Draymond. Also Booker has to be the most overrated clown in the entire league. I am still shocked they were the 6th seed. I mean when you sign Beal and Durant might as well change your teams logo to a medical cross.

Vogel is a good coach. These owners are f***** idiots.

Do you suppose the players were behind this? I mean that is usually the case with the stars dictating to the owner what they want regardless of the coaching talent.

No question they were. Soon as they were eliminated the reports come out Durant didn't like the offense.

No cap hit - that’s player contracts only.

Don’t certain soccer leagues impose financial controls on clubs - to ensure clubs don’t spend themselves into bankruptcy and drive up prices for everyone?

Would never fly in US sports of course - but makes sense. How many franchises run themselves to the brink of bankruptcy trying to buy championships? Coaches/managers only attract/enhance talent. A talented rookie is going to be talented no matter who the play for - likewise, while certain vets may only want to play for certain coaches - guys running out of time/options will play for whoever they have to for a paycheck (IE Kevin Durant) - they may talk a good game - but end of day they are going to where they get paid.

If cp3 didn't tear his hammy with Houston Durant might still have 0
