Where does it end with the whole “forced” eco awareness ?

EVs dropping like mad as too many models - unexpected cost of adapting and less than promised cost savings are seeing more and more people decide the cost isn’t worth the headache of a high cost to maintain/limited range vehicle.

Now all the major truck brands are phasing out the venerable V8 in their light duty trucks - opting for more “fuel efficient” 6 cylinder’s with twin turbos.

The gain in fuel efficiency is at best a mile per gallon between the time tested V8 and the new TT’s - and then you have to factor in the cost of a new turbo every decade. Absolutely ridiculous the way manufacturers are forcing people to make the switch.

Was thinking about trading in my truck for something newer - currently have a 2021 Tundra (last of the Toyota V8s) - thought about Ram but found out they are abandoning the Hemi as of 2024s. Toyota is rock solid - but admittedly lacking in the features department - but fact I’ve owned it for 3 years - drove 10k miles and can sell for what I paid new just speaks to both the great resale of Toyota and the demand from people still wanting V8s.

I’m curious to see what happens with Ram prices - do they start discounting 2024s as the year ends and the change over occurs - or do they see a bounce if people steer clear of their new offerings. I remember when Ram came out with the hybrid offering a few years ago - actually saw a lot of people saying no to the hybrid add on.

Think Chevy will still continue with the V8 for now - Ford ditched it a while back. Keep telling myself I don’t need to spend more money on a newer truck as mines just getting broken in - but still tempting
- right up until I see the forced changeover to the new engines. Maybe I just enjoy an out of date truck that I’ll probably never need to do anything but change the fluids in during my lifetime.

Keep the Tundra Djefferis....
That V-8 is like a piece of GOLD that will not depreciate.
I have a 5.7L V-8 Tundra as well and plan on keep that SOB until the wheels fall off. Best vehicle I've ever owned (Explorer, Expedition, Silverado, Mazda SUV, Kia Sedan, etc...).

I keep reading about new V-6 Turbo trucks (e.g. Tundra and Ram) that are having problems. Sure they went turbo to get the HP and torque up but they messed up. Over 100k 2022-2023 Tundras and Lexus SUVs with V-6 being recalled due to engine issues.

Why did they mess with something (V-8s) that is ultra reliable and works perfectly? Was a dumb move. I get a lot of offers for my truck from the local Toyota dealers calling and I tell them... No way. I'm not selling.

I'll wait a few years, if not several, until they iron out the problems with these "new" V-6s.

Toyota = best vehicles made in USA IMO.

👍🍺

My daily driver is a 2019 Highlander - I love it. Also, we ‘inherited’ a 98 Corolla from my Mother-In-Law that passed away a few years ago. Won’t fit in the garage with mine & my wife’s cars in there, so we park it on the street.

At least once a month, if I’m in the driveway, I’ll get someone asking me if I’m ready to sell it. I’m actually shocked nobody has stolen it - I guess my neighborhood is well off enough…..
