South Korea' government passed legislation ending the country's ancient and unusual way of counting age.

New legislation recently began that adopts the more widely-held practice of beginning to count a person's age when they are born.

In the past a person a person was considered 1 year old on the day born, and everyone then aged one year on New Year's Day.

That meant that a baby born on December 31 was considered 2 years old on its second day of birth
