Yeah, but Elon has been a bit of a disappointment on several fronts.

One of the big ones is claiming he's a free speech "absolutist" (again showing he doesn't know what it means) while banning dissent on his own platform.

But yeah, he was only concerned about AI because other companies were ahead of them in the field. While he advocated for a halt to AI until regulations could come into play he was developing some himself.

Elon tends to have motives for all of these things. One of the biggest is his thirst for gov't subsidies. He likes those and rails against the govt when they turn him down.
