damn appears bad heart

Ward, the report said, told officers he was worried Irsay was suffering from congestive heart failure and that Irsay’s nurse had said Irsay’s oxygen level was low, his breathing was labored and he was "mostly" unconscious.

A month later, he was diagnosed with a respiratory illness.

During his annual training camp news conference last summer, Irsay told reporters he was continuing to rehab from two subsequent surgeries — though he remained seated in his golf cart. Irsay did not speak during the recent NFL Draft as he typically did.

He had also battled addictions to alcohol and painkillers.

Irsay began his football life as a ball boy after his late father, Robert, acquired the team in a trade with the late Carroll Rosenbloom, who took over the Los Angeles Rams. The younger Irsay then worked his way up to general manager, a position he held with the Colts from 1984-96. He was 24 years old when he first started in that role, becoming the youngest GM in NFL history.

Jim Irsay dead at 65

Sadly not unexpected.

At 65 looked more like 85 - been a hard life for him with the booze and drugs.

As NFL owners go - he was the last of a dying breed. His business WAS being a team owner - not making a fortune on some tech startup and dabbling in sports. He was committed to fielding a winning team and making his money the old fashioned way.

Of course he wasn’t responsible for stealing the Colts from Baltimore (his dad did that shortly before his passing) - but he was the ultimate beneficiary of that move.

Always liked the guy though for his engagement with fans and his mind blowing collection of things he found interesting - including one of the greatest collections of guitars and musical instruments in the world. Hopefully he has made arrangements for those items to remain on public display and out of private collectors hands solely.

Much like the NFL teams - he understood- you don’t “own” some things - you are just their entrusted caretaker and they should be shared with the masses - not hoarded and kept locked away in a vault somewhere.
