Christian Laettner, a Duke University legend, holds several NCAA tournament records, including most games played (23), most points (407), and most free throws made (142).

Here's a more detailed look at his college records and accomplishments:
NCAA Tournament Records:

  • Most games played: 23
  • Most points: 407
  • Most free throws made: 142
    • Most free throw attempts: 167
Other Notable Accomplishments:
    • Led Duke to back-to-back NCAA championships in 1991 and 1992
    • Averaged 16.6 points and 7.8 rebounds per game in his college career
    • All-time three-point shooting percentage leader at Duke with 48.5%
    • Only player in NCAA Tournament history to start in four consecutive Final Fours
    • 1992 College Player of the Year
    • Selected third overall in the 1992 NBA Draft
    • Only college player on the 1992 "Dream Team" that won the gold medal at the 1992 Olympics
    • Duke's all-time NCAA Tournament leader with 169 rebounds
    • His 39 NCAA Tournament steals rank as the most in Duke history

Laettner might be the best TOURNEY player (and most hated) of all time. I lost a lot of cash as a result of him and Duke.

Pistol is by far the greatest individual performer of all time though in college.
Laettner is the best ever.

Pete wasn't it when it really counted.

Didn't play in the modern era of college.

When do you define “modern” era of college hoops?

To me - pretty distinct difference in playing against 1 and done’s vs playing against a bunch of 23 year olds because the NBA money wasn’t much of a factor.

Bird/Magic were pretty special in college too - as was James Worthy.

Post 2000s is a different world for college hoops - few are playing for a college legacy anymore. Imagine all the straight to NBA/One and done playing 4 years. Probably a few of them would be in the conversation.

Playing with a talent laden group also enhances perception. It’s a lot easier to score when you have guys around you who are a threat to score so teams just can’t double up on you . Didn’t matter with Pistol - he’d simply shoot from anywhere on the court and make it consistently. Shot just under 44% because he’d regularly have to throw up shots from well beyond what is now 3 point range. That’s the biggest con with Pistol was his shooting percentage.

When Alcindor played there were only 16 teams in the Tournament.

A fukkin joke.

Laettner was a 6'11" center who is Duke's all time 3 point percentage leader to this day.

Besides being the most clutch player ever, he's the only man ever to play in 4 Final Fours.

What, by comparison, has Pete done that is remotely close to this?

Laettner is it.

Without him, there is no such thing as Duke Basketball.

Think about that for a second.

??

Duke was well established well before he arrived.

Coach K had a runner up finish in 85-86 and a final 4 the season before he arrived. Saying he put them on the map is a bit of a stretch.

Great player - and he was surrounded by great players.

No shit, Sherlock.

Yes Duke existed before he arrived but they didn't win anything before him and the entire Championship foundation was built on him.

Duke never won anything before him. Laettner established the Duke brand. In fact, it was built on him.

swissvale's Dick Groat one of the original Duke greats and under rated top 5 dual sport athletes of all time
Yes because the Duke brand was because of Dick Groat.

Nike sponsored Duke because of Groat, the best players in the country now want to play for Duke because of the brand established by Dick Groat.

Dick Groat led Duke to championships. Dick Groat was in the Final Four every year.

Dick Groat is the all-time tournament leader in everything for Duke.

It was all Dick Groat.

In fact, I have my Dick Groat jersey hanging up right now.
