I want to ask someone something over DM. I see there's something called conversation, but is that the same thing as a DM?

There's two on top. One is for new notifications and the other is for any new private messages. The envelope is for the private message list and the bell looking icon is for notifications such as when someone quotes you in a post or likes one of your posts
