It’s almost as if the man sitting in a suit on the bench DOES NOT matter in professional basketball.
Imagine that - grown ass men who live a life of doing whatever the hell they want NOT needing/listening to someone else just because they are in a position of “authority”.
He got the job because they recognized there was a problem with the team - who despite winning showed no signs of actuallly playing as a team - just playing individually and winning despite. Did anyone think he was going to come in and scare these millionaires straight ? Feels a lot like David Blatt in Cleveland - except Blatt was a respected coach with knowledge of the game and ability to improve play.
Doc on the other hand is respected as a player who had good insight to the game when he played - but he isn’t great at the modern NBA. Knowing how the game was played doesn’t help with the modern game. Same goal of course - but played differently and having a team play your game only works when you can gain 100% buy in and do it successfully.
They will make playoffs of course - probably win a round maybe 2 - but when the end result falls short of finals - he will be dismissed and some new sucker will take the job.
