The NBA and NHL Playoffs continue this weekend for us to enjoy. The Preakness and the WNBA are also available for you along with numerous hot trends that can help your wagering. Plus, Jim Nantz shows a different side of his personality and Atlanta’s Ronald Acuna Jr. is striping the baseball. Have a perfect weekend!

About Last Night…

NBA

The Lakers were perfectly positioned to take Game 2 over Denver but let it slip away in the final quarter. LeBron James' three-point shooting woes (0-19 and shots hitting the front of the rim) are documented and at least visually, he looked worn out in the final 15 minutes of the game. And Anthony Davis was hardly a positive contributor on 4 of 15 shooting.

Jamal Murray very much resembled the player of three years ago before he wrecked his knee. He was the difference in the fourth quarter. However, Murray’s missed free throw with 19.1 seconds left and made/cost Lakers and Nuggets bettors money, with the spread 5.5 and Denver’s 108-103 victory.

NHL

Unless you were a Florida fan or betting backer, the Panthers winning 3-2 in the 4th OT with just 12 seconds remaining in that period was anticlimactic.

We get the whole tradition thing, but after halfway through the second OT, when it was obvious both teams were gassed and were playing on instinct, it’s no longer a pleasure to watch.

One thought is to play an extra period and if still tied, go to a shootout. To add more drama, make it where one team has to win the shootout by two instead of on goal. This writer hung in for three OTs living on Pacific time, and that was more than enough. Even the “Great One” agrees with us.

Carolina could be in trouble now. One last thing, that was only the sixth-longest playoff game. Imagine others were longer!

MLB

The Dodgers' Julio Urias looked like he was the pitcher for the home run derby contest. He gave four bombs in the third inning alone. St. Louis hit seven long balls and won 16-8 as +130 home underdogs, and they are on a 9-2 run.

Golf

There were three surprises from the first day of the PGA Championship. The organization did not give in to the players and made Oak Hill a challenging track, which makes us happy.

Next, the favorite, Jon Rahm had an opening +6. In his final 12 holes, Rahm had six bogeys, a double bogey and one birdie the rest of the way.

Bryson DeChambeau was in 2nd place after the opening round. Consider, DeChambeau has never had the lead after any round in his two-year LIV Golf career. Maybe he doesn’t like the music.

Trendy Talk

MLB

  • San Diego is 0-8 after a 5-game span where the bullpen ERA was 2.00 or better this season.
  • L.A. Angels are 11-36 vs. a starting pitcher who gives up 0.5 or fewer HRs a start.
  • Chicago Cubs are 3-16 when playing against a marginal losing team (Win Pct. 46% to 49%) the last two seasons.
  • Detroit is 10-3 (+11.7 Units) in an inter-league game this season.
  • Oakland is 13-0 over as a road underdog of +175 to +250 this season.
  • San Diego is 12-1 under vs. a starting pitcher who gives up 5.5 or less hits a start.

NBA

  • Boston is 1-8 ATS in home games revenging a loss where the opponent scored 110 or more points this season.
  • L.A. Lakers are 10-1 ATS in home games versus teams outscoring their opponents by 3+ points a game in the 2nd half of the season the last two years. (Saturday)

NHL

  • Dallas is 3-14 versus teams outscoring their opponents by 0.5+ goals a game.
  • Florida is on an 8-2 playoff run. (Saturday)

WNBA

  • Phoenix is 24-47 ATS in May games.
  • Connecticut is 37-22 ATS as a favorite in the last two seasons.
  • Washington was 13-5 under vs. division opponents last year

What to Watch For and Win (Hopefully)

NBA

Will Boston rebound from a stunning Game 1 setback? And if they do, what will Sunday’s Game 3 look like in Miami? Check out our game previews and free picks.

Saturday, we have a venue change to Los Angeles with the Lakers down 0-2. Can they hold the home court?

MLB

We have some very good series this weekend that include division leaders Milwaukee at Tampa Bay. There is also an excellent AL East series with Baltimore at Toronto. Watch for our free baseball picks and prop bets all weekend long.

NHL

On Friday and Sunday, Dallas invades Vegas for a pair of Western Conference Final battles. On Saturday it’s Game 3, sorry Game 2 (It just feels like Game 3 after the series opener went almost seven periods), between Florida and Carolina.

Horse Racing

It is the second leg of the Triple Crown with the Preakness Stakes from Pimlico in Baltimore. Get our race preview and picks!

UFC

It is UFC Vegas 73 and we have our best bets, top props and parlays to ponder!

The Buzz

Golf – Jim Nantz's Subtle Sense of Humor

Jim Nantz of CBS has been the pro’s pro for decades. He set up his analysis, avoided controversy and expertly did his job. But now he’s giving up duties and doing humorous spots with Charles Barkley and Spike Lee, and he’s letting another side of himself show.

We like it, do you?

NBA – Do the Celtics Look Like Too Big a Favorite in Game 2?

Horses – Another Triple Crown Horse Sidelined

First Mission was the 2nd betting choice on the morning line, and most knowledgeable horse bettors we communicated with had him as their choice to win the Preakness.

First Mission has been scratched from the Preakness on the advice of veterinarians. That changes a lot of people’s betting cards.

WNBA

A new WNBA season starts and it’s another chance for bettors to wager on mostly daily. Here are the odds to get you started.
  • New York -3 over Washington - Total O/U 163
  • Connecticut -7 over Indiana – Total O/U 161.5
  • Minnesota -5 over Chicago – Total O/U 162.5
  • Los Angeles -1.5 over Phoenix – Total O/U 157
We are thinking of Washington plus the points for openers.

Top Betting System

MLB – Brewers at Rays (-250 ML, -125 RL)

Play on home favorites with a money line of -175 to -250 like the Rays after a loss by two runs or less, against an opponent after scoring three runs or less in two straight games.

Teams like Tampa Bay are 52-6 SU in this spot since 2019. If -250 is too rich for your blood, the RL could be a good choice since in these 58 contests, the average margin of victory is 3.0 RPG.

Out The Door

MLB – The Braves' Ronald Acuna Jr. is Crushing the Baseball

As of today, Acuna Jr. is second in batting average and slugging percentage and first in on-base percentage and OPS (on-base plus slugging). In other words, he’s off to a fantastic start. But not only is he getting on base, but he's also crushing the horsehide.

MLB – Shohei Ohtani

This doesn’t make Ohtani’s legend greater, but it is pretty cool.

What Bettors Like – Play or Fade?
