How does this scam work? If he is making false claims, how does he get the actual cash?

Basically - yes and yes.

He submits fake claims via a partner physician and their billing service for treatment and durable med equipment never provided. He also “recruited” other broke NBA players to participate.

Dr gets paid 10-20k and then gives him a few grand. Do this a couple dozen times and over a few hundred players - your making some serious $$.

Basically doing the same thing that occurs daily with our Medicare system - on a smaller basis. Of course no one cares if you rip off the government because they print the money anyway. but defraud the might NBA - they are gonna make an example out of you because they can - to dissuade anyone from ever trying this scam again.

It worked well during COVID because places were just rubber stamping approvals - but now that they are re-reviewing given the opportunity- a lot of fake billing’s being found.

Might be kind of fun to go watch them play if they could all be on the same team and play against other cons. Probably would get their a$$ kicked since it would be even more physical than in the NBA.

Didn't he get busted selling pounds of weed years ago as well? 40 months? He will maybe do 18 tops unless he is misbehaving in there and getting write ups. Plus he is prob going to get sentenced to one of those fed prisons that is basically just a glorified camp like the one Todd Chrisley and Donaghue went to.

Depends on who sentenced him.

Federal - he is doing 2/3 of the time. Few exceptions.

State - depending on state/venue - he would be out in 8 months - depending on overcrowding. Commuted to “home confinement”.

Again - how “hard” the time is again very dependent on who sent you there - federal or state. I mean jail is jail - your freedom is restricted - but generally it’s like an adult high school detention more than how it’s made out in movies/tv - at least at the minimum/medium security level.
