I’ll just copy and paste a text I sent to a good buddy yesterday -

-Been a struggle today man. Ironic after talking about it earlier in the week. Had to put one of my girlfriend’s dogs down today. My favorite one of her four. Lived with me almost 5 years and I still feed and see them every weekday. A little Chihuahua who had a lot of character and spunk. We bonded right away. Sometimes she’d come spend the weekend with me even after my girlfriend bought her house.

-My little godson understands kind of. We met at Canes after and he kept repeating - papa sweetheart died, papa sweetheart passed away, I’m sorry papa

Anytime you lose an animal that you're close to, it's tough. Myself and my wife still to this day talk about our German Shepherd Zeus that we had to put down in June of 2024. When we first got him off of Craigslist he wasn't too friendly and hated being in our room. He would tear up the carpeting and we tried to kennel him but he would eat through the bars. He hated to be left alone. Eventually I went to work graveyard and my wife spent more time in our bedroom with him and he started to come around. It got to the point where he slept on our bed every night and was very protective especially of my wife.

@samsncharge99 did I remember

Sweetheart was the lil guy's name?

I lost my black lab 2 years ago. Nala. 10 years old. Fluid in her lungs. The night was worse than my divorce i couldnt stop crying

Sorry for the loss BJ. Pets are an extension of the family. So innocent and loving

Sorry to hear - it’s rough for sure.

Over the years had a good number of dogs and never seems to get easier - especially on the ones who we are more bonded with and their special personalities.

In the end - just take comfort knowing you helped them live their best life possible and they knew as much and rewarded you for doing so. We are at 5 now and I worry about the day any of them go - but our oldest worries me the most as she is by far the leader of the house.

Thoughts are with you and yours - just never forget and continue to do what you can to help others, it’s the only way I’ve found to get over the inevitable depression of not having a friend around anymore.

all beautiful dogs in these posts. sorry jay and sorry to all others. i dread my dog getting older. my first dog and not sure i can handle another knowing how attached i am now. i just feel so bad for the dogs who need rescue.

the worst part with dogs is knowing even if everything is "good" you are not getting more than 10-15 years most of the time. and then you could always get less than that which happens a lot too. just too short. my dog already had a cancerous lump removed in april. lucky we caught it early. i just enjoy each day.

I’m sorry for your loss, man. Our dogs keep us grounded in a world full of selfish, disloyal people who can’t compare to the unwavering loyalty of our pets.
