Because Rose was a selfish prick of a person who cared about no one but Pete Rose.

Hell of a player - but bottom line Rose had a massive ego in his playing days. He HAD to win didn’t matter what he was playing/doing - he had to win and would keep pushing. That’s why he is villainized.

Rose simply felt he was truly bigger than the game. No excuse for barring him from the HOF - but he was rightfully shown the door by MLB from managing/coaching again and he could not accept
what he did was wrong.

As to Ohtani being a gambler - even if he was (of course there is no proof) - the bets made were on SOCCER - not the sport he plays. There is a difference betting on a sport in which your involved and one you have no affiliation with. Rose played the ponies all the time during his playing days - no one cared.
