They used to have great BB history that supported them and drew players. Its faded and they do not shine like the other big programs anymore.
IMO they need to find a coach that is up and coming and recruit the hell out of him. Once they start to turn and become decent again, players will be much easier to recruit. All great coaches start somewhere at lower D1 schools. You just have to find the right one.
Stubblefield isn't that guy right now. He's only paid $430k so its understandable its the best they could find. Compare that to the lowest paid coaches in Big 12 (T.J. Otzelberger, Iowa State $2.0 million), Big 10 (Ben Johnson, Minnesota – $1.95 million).
You get way you pay for. Avg salary of all mid-major conferences is ~$400k.
