First baseman Jose Abreu has been released by the Astros. The really stunk this year. 0.124 batting in 35 games before being sent to AAA for a while. Astros still on the hook for $30M guaranteed through 2025.

Dayam that's a lot of money for guy who won't be playing for you anymore.

Good. Now I don't have to miss chew every time I see him play. Who was it across the street that told me I was full of shit and he didn't chew and MLB banned it? Which I know they did for a min but Abreu def had a dip in at all times.

Somebody will take him on - he has a better chance than Bauer to play in bugs this year.

Hopefully he figures it out - clearly .125 is not gonna cut it anywhere. At 37 - time is not on his side - but he can get it together and be a serviceable player for a year or 2.

I would like to see him on Guardians - but with so many young guys - might be better to save the spot for another pitcher. Still some veteran leadership would be nice.

So chew IS banned - for any player who came up after 2016.

He started before so is grandfathered in - also about half the stadiums prohibit it - but still very possible for a veteran player to chew on field.

Let’s be realistic - you think any team is going to argue with an all star player or try telling them no. As long as your producing - teams absolutely look the other way.

That has to be by far and away the stupidest f**** rule they have ever come up with. Oh you came up in 2015? You can dip. Oh, 2016? Nah go f*** yourself. Either way, I think it was Stevex but dude tried to argue about Abreu's dip. Guy literally only had to watch Abreu on the screen one time for 5 seconds, spent more time arguing with me about he didn't chew.

MLB does what it can to both satisfy large market teams and small market.

If your a small market - they allow you basically to control players 6 full years - knowing the average player has a career of player is just below that.

So for most - they never even see a chance for big bucks in FA. Then there are the stars - how many actually reach FA BEFORE their age 30 season - maybe 1 or 2 a year ? Pitchers realize their one throw away from missing 18 months any time - so they tend to agree to deals in year 4-5 that gives both parties some security. Hitters - it’s a 50/50 proposition - some like where they are and will take less for security…others are out to get every cent or move on from their current team no matter what.

But MLB does only what’s on their favor. They appease the MLBPA by overpaying a few vets - who in turn are forced to donate a nice slice of that money to the MLBPA in dues as well as allow their likeness/name to be used in marketing making the union a whole lot more. Then MLBPA gives a small pension to anyone who played 50 games.
