Stadium plan was killed by the team due to hurricanes and cost delays.
They are in a contract to remain at Tropicana Field thru 2027 season.

With the comments from the Rays concerning hurricanes, how can they ever plan to build there????

I've mentioned before that I wouldn't blame the owner for moving the team long ago

He has been more than patient with the pathetic fans & attendance in the area

If there were more supporters like @rdalert447 and @kidcudi92 then it would be a different story

But bottom line is baseball fans in the area suck azz and are lazy bums

Or, since the Buccaneers and Lightning do extremely well, it could be that baseball simply won't ever catch on here

The deal was in place but with all of the time to think I believe it has finally hit him

I think they were talking about only ~16k average attendance last year.
That is some sad attendance but, can you blame the fans? Is there a decent product on the field?

Even all of the seasons they had success enough ppl didn't show up

The 'fans' make up the excuse that it's a long & inconvenient trek across the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.
But I would bet anything nothing would have changed with a new stadium and/or new location

Hasn’t been too much buzz about it here in Orlando. Pat Williams was trying to get a team here, then he died. I hear Barry Larkin took over the efforts, but it’s been pretty quiet.
The economics of baseball have gotten so out of control that publicly financing stadiums going fwd isn't good policy.

Plus we won't see free money (bonds) anytime soon approaching 0% which is how all those teams got new stadiums last 20 years

Seriously see them moving to Montreal.

Tampa for whatever reason just doesn’t care.

It’s a weird market - should be plenty of interest - but just too focused on other things to care about baseball - even when the team is generally worth watching.

Florida doesn’t support pro teams at all high level anywhere - not like the Midwest where sports are a major attraction.
