Just curious - anyone else donate part of their winnings to charity ?

I am a pure recreational gambler - obviously it’s different for pro’s. I mean - I give a bit of my “real job” salary to charities here and there - but the majority of what I give comes from the “side gigs” - which for me includes gambling.

Typically try to support 2 main types - animals and vets. Yes - there are a hell of a lot of people asking for money - but I tend to support local groups and things where I can see an impact of my donation.

Only “large” charity I support is Wreaths Across America - and that the donation is used locally. I prefer my donations be used for those who can see the benefit - but at the same time - it means a hell of a lot to some of those people who lost loved ones to see that someone cared enough to throw a. $15 wreath on their grave and remember their service to their country was not forgotten. Otherwise it’s all local small places who appreciate a donation of $500 so much more than the corporate monstrosity that things like St Jude/Salvation Army/United Way have became.

I donate to BSA (Boy Scouts of America) and used to volunteer at food bank but not for a while now.

You also pay an over-average amount in insurance if you don't have kids. The medical expenses for families with kids aren't in direct correlation to the amount they pay in insurance. Those extra charges are paid by people without kids.

I’m sure it’s a matter of minutes before we get a reminder of how “uncharitable” gamblers are - in fact I’ve seen quite the opposite.

Tipping is a huge part of gambling culture in the US - to me charity is just a natural extension of that. I mean - no one “tips” a clerk at an offshore book - but it’s just good karma to share winnings and do some good.

Yes. A lot of gamblers involved with philanthropy. Have to do something with all those profits.
