Outstanding version of a George Strait classic.

And wrote at least half of Stairway to Heaven and never saw a dime from it either during his life.

Found the video with comparison of the intro’s.

It’s not a note for not rip off - but given the “similarities” of a song that was a. Released just 18 months or so before Stairway was written and b. Played by a band who opened for Zeppelin on several dates - playing this song nightly - the liberties taken with “borrowing” are a little too great to ignore.

Never mind Page has a long history of taking bits and pieces (and more) from long dead musicians, speeding them up a bit and cleaning them up and calling them his own. He knew damn well what he did (even if unknowingly in his subconscious) and should have at least made it right with Randy. But being the ultimate cheapskate, having Peter Grant as a manager and Atlantics legal team at your disposal has its advantages I guess.

I still love Zep and Page and all they did - but this one was blatant theft.

Always liked this song and think Miranda did it justice with her rendition.

Tom Douglas co-wrote it - if you don’t know the name look him up and all the songs he’s written/co-written.

Thank god her ex didn’t get ahold of it - as she did it so much better. Supposedly his manager sent it to him with a packet of songs bought from Douglas - Miranda found it first and “claimed” it. Good career move for her (and Tom).

Somehow I don't remember anything about this. Love Spirit very underrated too and still love most of Zeppelins stuff. STH is one of my least favorite songs(so overplayed). Same goes for Claptons Layla and even Stones Satisfaction (I know...blasphemy ).

Was reminded of this song the other day - guy was talking how in all the music in Sony’s vast catalog of hits - THIS is the biggest earner by far.

Simply just an incredible song.

I am updating some things including preparing a will (nothing to be alarmed about - more about having a little money in the bank these days rather than feeling a pressing need to prepare for the inevitable) and one of my request will be to have this played at my funeral.

Doubtful anyone shows up of course - but there will be a hell of a wake following.

So Zep 1 and 2 heavily “borrowed” from blues musicians.

In ‘68 - Plant wasn’t in any position to be writing songs and Page/Jones just brought in stuff they’d been listening to for years. A lot of blues standards redone - same as Joe Cocker, The Faces and many of the big names of the day.

By the time you got to Zep IV - Plant was a full fledged songwriter and it was a different story. Page was never shy about “borrowing” stuff and not giving credit though.

In a way it’s easy to see why - he and JPJ had played on thousands of sessions and did stuff others got credit for but as hired “hired guns” they were the ones who created the bits you heard on the record - not the guy couldn’t bring the goods they sub’d in for. So in Page’s mind - it was only fair - he got screwed out of credit for a decade on some of England’s biggest hits - so why should some long dead guy no one ever heard of be credited for “his” songs/
