Long write-up with no leans on these two very good teams. Just pointing out how evenly matched they are and I am wondering if someone sees it differently.
----------------------------------------------------
We have a great matchup tonight. I anticipate seeing these teams in the NLCS in October.
Giants at Mets - Both teams playing exceptionally well to start the season. Neither team has lost more than 1 game in the 3 series they've each played so far.
. Mets series: WAS, PHI, ARI
. Giants series: MIA, SD, CLE
Starting pitchers are Cobb (Giants) vs Megill (Mets):
Two pitchers that are starting out great this season.
. Cobb in 1 outing this year: 5 IP, 2 runs, 2 BB, 10 K
. Megill in 2 outings: ~5 IP each gm, 0 runs, 0 BB, 5&6 K in those games.
Outscoring Opponents:
The Giants and Mets are 1st & 3rd in Runs scored/Runs Allowed at 2.15 and 2.04 respectively. Dodgers are 2nd at 2.13. And its not even close for the next tier of teams on this list (STL 1.48, CLE 1.29).
Batting:
The averages are even at 0.237 vs 0.234. OPS is also very close 0.733 vs 0.718.
I might give NYM a slight edge at the plate with a WRC+ 117 vs 105 for the Giants.
Relief pitching:
NYM: 3.01 xFIP, 4.06 ERA
SFG: 4.38 xFIP, 2.34 ERA
I've look at this game for an hour and these are two evenly matched teams IMO. I cannot see an edge for either team. The total is 6.5. I think the total is a tough play to make as well with the pitchers we have going. I believe the runs may come from the bull-pens (maybe).
This should be a great game.
Anyone have any leans? I've beaten this horse to death and can't find any.
