Is it typical for ATMs to be empty in Vietnam? I read some reviews online as I was searching the lowest fee ATMs and I noticed several people mention that.

Which bank's ATM would you recommend for foreigners?
No , never experienced an empty ATM. I have VietinBank and Chase. Chase has no ATM fees worldwide.

I didn't know that about Chase. I use Schwab. When I was in the Ayala Mall in Cebu I walked into a bank I had never heard of before, put my Schwab card in the ATM and received the exact amount I requested. No ATM fees. No foreign money fees.

Don't forget, some banks will charge you an additional fee other than the fee for not being their bank if you pull money out of an ATM in another country.

Sorry, I meant Schwab, ATM transactions are free worldwide, it is great!

Okay, thanks. Maybe it's just some of the tourist area ATM's that are empty more often. I'll find out tomorrow :icon_conf
I went to look for an ATM to get some cash. The first ATM machine on the list weren't where it was suposed to be. Somewhere else. Same thing with the next ATM. Simply wasn't there

The next ATM on the list, I found it (!) but got an error message, something like "the transaction couldn't be completed". Okay, on to the number 4. Finally worked. But the limit was 3 million. And I just checked the transaction fees. It was 9 euros (10,5 usd)

Get Charles Schwab no ATM fees worldwide.
Use VPbank, Agribank, MB bank, VietinBank, PVbank, BIDV, SHB, Vietcom, VIP, Sacomb, ACB, MSB those banks take American cards. Other smaller banks dont. Open up a VietinBank account. Get their app and use their QR code to pay for things. It’s the best bank here.
MB and VP bank is 1,000 a day USD but you have to do it in increments of 5 million each time. Other banks limits are 3 million ạ transaction , depending the bank you can do multiple transactions. I usually take out 1k USD at MB bank but it takes me 5 transactions at 5 million each.
