Former healthcare official identified as leader of group that self - inflicted bone fractures to fraudulently claim insurance payouts
On November 14, #PhúThọ Provincial Police ( 2hours from Ha Noi by car) reported that the Criminal Investigation Division had successfully dismantled a ring that intentionally caused self-inflicted injuries for insurance fraud.
Based on collected evidence, investigators identified Ta Minh Chau (born 1995, former staff member of Cam Khe District Medical Center) as the mastermind and ringleader. Exploiting his years of experience in the healthcare sector and his in-depth knowledge of bone and joint structures, Chau personally administered anesthetics before using needles, hammers, and nails to inflict force on the bones of insured individuals, creating fractures and cracks resembling real accident injuries. After completing the injuries, Chau instructed the participants to stage fake accident scenes such as electric shocks or slipping and falling into streams to legitimize medical reports and complete insurance claim files. This method was not only cruel and inhumane but also carefully calculated to target bone areas with high insurance payout rates, making it difficult for insurance companies to detect the fraud.
