I forgot what a rush it is to bet the ponies

I know I’ve told @str @rdalert447 and @jjgold I used to bet the ponies a lot in my 20s but I hardly ever do anymore other than maybe the triple crown races and Breeders Cup. This year I only had a small win and place bet on the Derby.

It’s just too easy to lose a lot of money because it’s such a rush betting them. And the takeout on the exotics makes it a very difficult thing to beat. I’ve also gotten a lot more disciplined in my gambling approach and the ponies don’t factor in to that equation.

I’ve mentioned here when I get a notion driving by my local track headed to another destination I tell myself “that’s brokesville” 😂. And I keep going. Keeps me in the right mindset.

I have the horse racing channel now since I added the sports pack to get the Red Zone a month ago.

Trying to meet a small 1x roll on the deposit I made at BetAnything to play their prop promo tonight. Won $25 playing bacarrat. Had a balance of a little over $75 so I decided to see if there was anything worth betting. (Horses and casino count toward roll at BAS - BetAnything)

Studied and listened to the announcers and came up with one small play on a 6/5 horse. After I bet his odds rose to 5/2. It was such a rush watching the race and hoping he hung on. Brought back all those memories of playing the ponies and the rush it gives you.

He won pretty easily and paid $7 on the nose.

A nice profit which means I’ll get a $100 payout on my small deposit regardless of the NFL prop boost “Henry to score”

Of course the first thing I thought when he won was “why the hell didn’t I bet more on him” 😂

Self-discipline and winning - I think this is the best combo, BigJay. Congrats on those wins.

congrats on the win. i do agree that horse racing was a rush and it was done quick. my dad liked that cause it gave him many opportunities in a day to make up for losses.

Bet Charlestown or mountaineer tracks. They have a law they pay $2.20 to show. All other tracks pay only $2.10
Betting that 1/9 1/5 shot will pay $2.20
I never told anyone what happened. I knew this it was like 2012. See I was outsmarting the racetrack. And I had the cash. I would put like $20,000 to show on the 1/9 shot at those 2 tracks only. Never did lose. Was worried jockey fall off but never happened.
So 10,000 x .20 cents = $2000 profit
There were ususally just 1 or 2 a day than I leave

Track caught on to me. They hated me. Killing the show pools. I outsmarted the track. They were running after me the security guard and owner of the track. I remember I remember saying I can bet whatever I want. Well they caught me had to sign a paper can’t bet more than $1,000 a race. I can still go but my 20,000 bets are over.
True story. Look back and think it’s still funny.

This was at Emerald downs. Couldn’t even go this season with my health problems. Hopefully track will stay open next year.

JJ will the horses run in 2026? Yes or no. Read the articles online about it closing next year. But on the Emerald downs website says see you in 2026. I guess they are hoping. They don’t know yet.

Yea WVA has higher required payouts on show bets.

They also have the most crooked races along with Louisiana.

It’s where heavy chalk routinely manages to lose. You can have a horse going 1/5 in a 6 horse race and they wouldn’t hit the board more than 50% of the time.

10k to show on a $2.20 show horse pays $1k
I remember putting 20,000 it was quite a rush. Gambling fever. $2000 profit everytime. Than I invested it all on gold and silver bars. Which is my favorite hobby. I remember I hit over 100 straight 1/9 to show. Took awhile for the track to catch on to me. I beat the track. Made me happy at the time. Lol
