That is exactly what they are. Stories.

You can get a check you know.
I would always take the cash and rent a car drive it back home, make it a cross country trip of some sort.

Driving has its own problems.
If a cop pulls you over and searches your car, they will aslo confiscate your money without cause.

They will claim that it appears to be for drugs without any proof. They do this because the police department will eventually get to keep the money. Just like money taken at the airport, you have to fight to get it back and usually you lose.

I’m not worried about that because I have never in my life been pulled over and have been asked to search my car for any reason.

Just be a Karen

They can’t search your car without PC, having money isn’t a justifiable reason to have RS

Or how about “don’t ever carry a lot of cash”.

I’ve said it many times - certain agencies are known for being very aggressive with seizures - even assuming you have a 100% honest force that doesn’t dip a little themselves - they will put the burden back on you to prove it’s not illegally gotten gains.

Because guess what - those confiscated funds are added to department budgets. A lot of frivolous expenses get paid courtesy of confiscated cash and goods.

If anyone can explain to me what practical use a bunch of local police have with heavy equipment surplus from the military for example - I’m all ears. It’s ridiculous the level of gear some local sheriffs have around here - all courtesy of US Government surplus and taxpayers - gifted to some certificate holder from a community college who wants to play army and get paid - without having to join the army and do any of the military stuff or risk getting shot at in a real conflict.

I had some stuff confiscated at LAX last year when coming back from the Promise Land, I am now flagged in their system,
