NYRA screws bettors again. Take races off turf 80 seconds before the start of the Pick 5, don’t give bettors time to cancel, stick bettors with ALL in the races off turf. Clown organization.
Was rough. Right at the wire….The weekend at the Spa was bad. I missed Maple Leaf Mel breaking down and I will not go back and watch it.
Thanks for explaining. As a bettor who does not play the dogs or ponies, I had no idea how big a deal this was. NYRA is screwing people. For those that don’t understand why it’s such a nefarious act:
Many players structure P5 tickets that cost hundreds, sometimes thousands, attempting to pick 5 straight winners.
NYRA took in all those wagers, then right before the start of the sequence, they took the remaining races off the turf, resulting in many scratches.
Then they rushed the horses into the gate and started the sequence, which closed betting. Most bettors were unable to cancel or adjust their tickets. And most bettors would have just cancelled.
NYRA made the former turf races, now on dirt with shortened fields, an “ALL” selection for every pick 5 ticket wagered. Meaning, anyone that wagered into the Pick 5 pool would automatically have the winners of that race. That means everyone who wagered would have a piece of the pie from the Pick 5 pool.
So if you wagered $100, or $750, or $1200 etc into the pick 5, the most you could collect would be $25. No one in their right mind would make that bet, so almost everyone would have cancelled their tickets.
NYRA took that option away by announcing so late, then rushing the horses into the gate.
IF NYRA gave bettors the opportunity to cancel, NYRA would lose out on takeout because the pool would be tiny. And if they gave full rebates, they would lose the takeout. So they robbed the bettors and raked about $150,000.
Did she block you for asking that simple queston?

Ha. No. NYRA made a celebratory tweet during Pride month. Most people that replied respectfully disagreed with the tweet. Sara then tweeted that all those people were “hateful” and that she would be blocking them all. I politely pointed out to her that the posts weren’t hateful, just respectful opinions that differed from her own. I never commented on the Pride post. She then blocked me.Did she block you for asking that simple queston?
